The factory “A” engraving consists of a 1 3/4 inch wedge
of floral scroll engraving on the each side of the breech
end of the barrel, on the upper front of the frame, on the
cylinder flats, frame sides, recoil shields and back strap.
There is a star burst on the trigger guard bow. The barrel is
marked with the one-line address on top and ‘32 WCF” on the
left side. The left side of the frame is marked with the two line,
three patent dates followed by the Rampant Colt. The upper
left front of the trigger guard is marked with the number “3” over the
triangle “VP” proof mark. Fitted with standard blade front and frame notch
rear sights. The frame and hammer are casehardened, and the remaining surfaces are blued. The revolver has matching serial and assembly numbers, including the last two digits of the serial number (“72”) on the rear cylinder face.
CONDITION: Excellent. The revolver retains 95% original blue finish with some mild muzzle and edge wear, as well as a light cylinder drag line. 90% plus of the original vivid case colors remain on the frame and hammer. There is a small amount of very minor spotting on the left side of the top strap. The relief carved grips are also excellent with a very attractive aged color and grain. The engraving and markings are sharp. The action functions fine, although it does not hold at half cock. A very attractive documented factory engraved pre-war Colt SAA with carved steer head grip!
Estimate: 30,000 - 50,000
