LOT 214 Exceptional Colt Model 1861 Navy Percussion Revolver - Serial no. 12737, 36 cal., 7 1/2 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened/silver finish, walnut grips. This revolver was manufactured in 1863 and is one of only an estimated 38,843 manufactured between 1861-1873, compared to 200,500 Model 1860 Army revolvers manufactured between 1860-1873. It has a German silver blade front sight, the one-line New York address, “COLTS/ PATENT” on the left side of the frame, “36 CAL” on the left side of the trigger guard, and a smooth one-piece walnut grip. All
matching visible serial numbers marked on the barrel, frame, cylinder, cylinder pin, trigger guard, back strap, and handwritten in black ink in the rear mortise of the grip.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, retains 75% plus original high polish blue finish on the barrel with some patches of brown patina/surface pitting on the balance, mostly smooth brown patina on the cylinder along with a distinct roll scene and some patches of original blue finish, retains all of its original cylinder safety pins, 90% plus vibrant original case colors overall, 75% plus original silver plated finish on the trigger guard/grip straps, and sharp markings and edges in the metal overall. The grip is excellent with some scattered small minor dings and scratches, minor edge wear, and most of the original varnish. Mechanically excellent. on the left side of the frame. “44 CAL” is stamped on the left shoulder of the trigger guard. All matching visible serial numbers marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, butt, cylinder, wedge, cylinder pin, and handwritten inside the front grip mortise. CONDITION: Fine, retains 60% plus original high polish blue finish on the barrel with scattered flaking and scratches showing smooth brown patina on the balance, the cylinder showing a smooth gray patina with some scattered patches of light pitting and a defined scene, 40% of the muted original case colors visible, 20% original silver plated finish around the trigger guard, 30% original blue finish on the backstrap, with sharp markings in the metal overall. The grip is very fine with some age related cracking, a few small chips on the left edge, a mild chip on the right edge, and defined raised relief carving and edges. Mechanically excellent. Fine Civilian Colt Model 1860 Army Revolver with Exceptional Relief Carved Mexican Eagle and Snake Motif Grip - Serial no. 162398, 44 cal., 8 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened/silver finish, antique ivory grips. This civilian Colt Model 1860 Army revolver was manufactured in 1867. The revolver has a civilian type three-screw frame with no stock cut-outs in the recoil shield, and has grips with a highly detailed, relief carved Mexican eagle and rattlesnake motif in an oval on the left side. The barrel, cylinder, trigger guard, and back strap have a deluxe, high polish blue finish. The loading lever, hammer, and frame are color casehardened. The cylinder is roll-engraved with the Naval Battle of Campeche scene and “COLT’S PATENT.” The top of the barrel is
