LOT 351 Massive Brass Barrel Flintlock Blunderbuss Swivel Gun - NSN, 3 Bore gauge, 27 1/4 inch round bbl., bright finish, beech stock. This massive gun has a brass barrel that flares out to nearly 3 inches at the muzzle and has Birmingham proofs including a “3” bore mark. The lock has a brass cock and pan. The furniture is also brass. It is fitted with a large iron swivel. Guns like this were mounted to boats in the period for defense and signaling at sea, and smaller swivel guns that were still too large to be used as shoulder fired weapons were also used on smaller vessels on lakes and rivers, including by Lewis & Clark and the Corps of Discovery. CONDITION: Good with dark aged patina on the brass barrel and furniture, moderate oxidation and pitting on the iron, and general moderate overall wear. The stock has a gap at the rear of the lock, cracks at the tail of the lock and barrel tang, general scrapes and dings, heavier wear at the edges of the butt, and sturdy construction. Ramrod end absent. Mechanically needs work. Estimate: 3,500 - 5,000

Grice Brass Barrel Flintlock Blunderbuss with Relief Carved Stock and Snap Bayonet - NSN, 14 gauge, 14 inch part octagon bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. This late 18th century blunderbuss features a folding under barrel snap bayonet with a catch in the forend tip and a release trigger fitted to the acorn finial on the trigger guard. The main bore is .69 caliber (14 bore), and the bore at the muzzle flares out to 1 inch. The barrel has some decorative bands and light engraving, Ordnance private proofs and “London” in script on top, and an iron tang with simple floral engraving. The lock is signed “Grice” at center in script and has a large roller on the frizzen spring, floral and border engraving, and a stepped tail. The furniture is brass and has some light floral and border engraving. The stock has a very nicely relief carved shell pattern at the barrel tang.
CONDITION: Very good with attractive aged patina on the brass, gray and brown patina on the iron, distinct markings and engraving, and general minor overall wear. The stock is fine and has crisp carving, minor dings and scratches, and a faint crack on the left flat. Mechanically fine, including the bayonet mechanism.

Rare Bronze Breechloading Percussion Swivel Gun with Stand - , 1 1/2 inch , 25 1/4 inch round bbl., bronze finish. This bronze gun used a mug- shaped chamber like the breech-loading swivel cannons of old dating back to as early as the mid 14th century, and percussion ignition swivel guns based on the same basic design were still being used in combat into the 20th century mainly on vessels in Southeast Asia. Some may have been also used for launching harpoons for whaling, line throwing, and signaling. This impressive 20th century example is marked “M” on top of the tube, “XEP” to the right of the breech section, “X” on top of the breech section, and “XEP MKI” and “BLACK/POWDER/ONLY” on
the removable powder chamber. It is fired using a musket sized nipple and a spring loaded firing pin. Includes a bronze yoke and stand. The overall
length is 43 inches.
CONDITION: Good with dark aged patina on the metal throughout. Mechanically fine.

at the front lock screw on the left. Mechanically fine.

LOT 353 British Brass Barrel Flintlock Blunderbuss - NSN, 10 gauge, 15 3/4 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. This c. 1800 blunderbuss has no identifying markings aside from the London proofs on the brass barrel near the
breech. The bore is estimated and measures 1 1/4 inches at the muzzle. The lock has light engraving and a large roller on the frizzen spring. The furniture is plain
brass. The stock has basket weave style checkering on the wrist. CONDITION: Good with attractive aged patina on the brass, very dark brown patina on the lock, and mild overall wear.
