19th Century Tip- Up Barrel Underlever Gallery Air Gun by W. Stein of Camden, New Jersey - NSN, 30 , 22 inch octagon bbl., brown/bright finish, walnut stock. “W.STEIN/CAMDEN.N.J.” marked on the top barrel flat and repeated on top of the German silver cylinder reservoir. William Stein is listed as an active maker out of Camden, New Jersey in the 1860s-1870s. Air guns of
this style were used primarily for indoor gallery target shooting. This air gun has a tip-up octagon barrel that loads from the breech and is affixed with a latch
below, and it functions through the use of a trigger guard that can be pulled downwards, serving as the cocking lever in order to fill the cylinder air reservoir, and upon pulling the trigger the spring loaded piston releases. Chambered in approximately .30 caliber/7.5 mm with a smooth bore. Circular brass collection tag marked “R.D. BEEMAN/PRIVATE/COLLECTION/828” hanging from the trigger guard lever. A similar example is photographed and described on page 99 of “Blue Book of Airguns, Thirteenth Edition” where it is referred to as a “St. Louis” type air gun. CONDITION: Very fine, retains 75% original brown finish on the barrel with some areas of light fading and scattered light freckling, attractive bright surfaces on the German silver, and sharp markings in the metal. The stock is also fine with some scattered light nicks and handling marks, and defined edges. Mechanically fine. Provenance: The Dr. Robert D. Beeman Collection. Estimate: 2,250 - 3,500

Liebig of Baltimore - NSN, 30 , 21 1/2 inch octagon bbl., brown/bright finish, walnut stock. “Wm LIEBIG No 1 PRESIDENT St BALTIMORE” marked on the top barrel flat at the breech. No information was found related to this maker at the current time. Air guns of this style were used primarily for indoor gallery target shooting as produced during the Civil War era. Dovetail mounted blade front sight and adjustable notch rear sight. Features
floral scroll pattern engraving on top of the cylinder, receiver, trigger guard and buttplate. Chambered
in approximately .30 caliber/7.5 mm with a smooth bore. Circular brass collection tag marked “R.D.
BEEMAN/PRIVATE/COLLECTION/2078” hanging from the lever. A few screws are absent on the brass receiver. CONDITION: Very good, retains half of the period applied brown finish with a few scattered patches of light pitting visible on the iron surfaces,
attractive golden aged patina on the brass, and defined engraving and barrel markings. The wood is also very good with a few scattered scratches, a few chips and cracks, and otherwise defined edges. Fisher of New York - NSN, 30 , 23 3/8 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. “G FISHER/NY” and “WARRANTED” marked on the top barrel flat at the breech. Air guns of this style were used primarily for indoor gallery target shooting as produced during the Civil War era. This gallery air gun has a swivel breech, octagon barrel chambered in approximately .30 caliber/7.5 mm with a smooth bore, dovetail
mounted blade front sight and notch rear sight, and is mounted with a walnut forend and buttstock with a checkered wrist. It functions through the use of hand crank (not included) that is attached the right side for cocking in order to fill the cylinder reservoir, and upon pulling the trigger the spring loaded piston releases. Flourishes of scroll pattern engraving on the fittings. Circular brass collection tag marked “R.D. BEEMAN/PRIVATE/COLLECTION/092” hanging from the trigger guard. Absent elevation screw on the rear sight. This exact air gun is photographed and described on page 99 of “Blue Book of Airguns, Thirteenth Edition”. CONDITION: Very good with smooth brown and gray patina overall with scattered light pitting, and defined engraving. The wood is also very good with numerous scattered scratches and dents. Hoston/John Zuendorff of New York with Crank Handle - Serial no. 106, 28 , 22 inch octagon bbl., brown/ bright finish, walnut stock. “321/JOHN ZUENDORFF” and “E. HOSTON/106/NEW YORK” marked on top of the cylinder area. John Zuendorff is listed as an active maker circa 1850- 1860, and no related information was found on an E. Hoston. Air guns of this style were used primarily for indoor gallery target shooting as produced during the Civil War era. This gallery air gun has a swivel breech, octagon barrel chambered in approximately .28 caliber/7 mm with a smooth bore, dovetail mounted bead front sight and notch rear sight, floral engraving on the bottom of the trigger guard, and is mounted with a walnut forend and buttstock with a checkered wrist. It functions through the use of the included hand crank that is inserted in the right side for cocking in order to fill the cylinder reservoir, and upon pulling the trigger the spring loaded piston releases. Circular brass collection marked “R.D. BEEMAN/PRIVATE/COLLECTION/2077” hanging from the trigger guard. CONDITION: Good with a mix of period applied brown finish and gray patina with scattered areas of light pitting on the iron surfaces, with the brass surfaces showing some mild wear. The wood is also good with numerous scattered mild dents and scratches, an absent section and a mild crack on the left of the forend, a mild crack at the bottom rear of the forend, and a few mild cracks at the toe. 19th Century Crank Handle Gallery Air Gun by Joseph Lurch of New York - NSN, 28 , 21 1/4 inch octagon bbl., blue/silver finish, walnut stock. Brothers David and Joseph Lurch were listed as gallery gun makers in New York as early as 1863. “JOS. LURCH, N.Y.” (the “S” is backwards) marked on the top barrel flat at the breech. Air guns of this style were used primarily for indoor gallery target shooting as produced during the Civil War era. This gallery air gun has a swivel breech, octagon barrel chambered in approximately .28 caliber/7 mm with a smooth bore, dovetail mounted blade front sight and notch rear sight, and is mounted with a walnut forend and buttstock with a checkered wrist. It functions through the use of hand crank (not included) that is inserted in the right side for cocking in order to fill the cylinder reservoir, and upon pulling the trigger the spring loaded piston releases. Circular brass collection marked “R.D. BEEMAN/PRIVATE/COLLECTION/2074” hanging from the trigger guard. CONDITION: Good, with brown patina and some scattered patches of light pitting on the iron surfaces and 30% original nickel finish on the brass surfaces.
