Documented Special Order Winchester Deluxe Model 1876
Lever Action Rifle with Factory Letter - Serial no. 27458, 45-75
cal., 28 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, deluxe checkered
walnut stock. The Model 1876 is an iconic rifle once used by the likes of Theodore Roosevelt, Geronimo and the Texas Rangers. The included letter confirms that this rifle was received at the Winchester warehouse on October 9, 1882 and was shipped out the
following day as part of order number 35527 in 45/75 caliber with an octagon barrel, single set trigger, checkered pistol grip stock and a casehardened
frame. This is an early Third Model example with an integral dust cover rail and dust cover with serrated edges. Generally, the Third Model features are expected after serial number 30000. It features a blade front sight and folding ladder rear sight graduated to “10”, a full length magazine tube and is fitted with a multi-point checkered, fancy walnut forearm and semi-pistol grip stock. There is a small
ebony insert in the bottom of the grip and the crescent buttplate has a compartment containing a four piece metal cleaning rod. The top of the barrel has the Winchester address and King’s Improvement information. The upper tang has “MODEL 1876” between two foliate designs and the serial number is marked at the end of the lower tang.
CONDITION: Very good plus. The rifle retains some traces of the blue finish with otherwise a mottled brown patina with some scratches, mark, and patches of light pitting. The frame retains 20% faded case colors with some spotting and light pitting. The buttplate has a mottled brown patina. The wood is very good with crisp checkering, light scratches, pressure marks and a hairline crack on the grip near the upper tang
on the right. Mechanically excellent with clear markings.
 Estimate: 8,500 - 14,000
