Very Attractive Pair of Documented Engraved
and Gilt Flintlock Holster Pistols by Gilles
Massin with Highly Figured, Carved Maple Stocks Formerly in the Visser
Collection -A) G. Massin Holster Pistol - NSN, 28 bore cal., 12 inch round bbl., bright/gold finish, maple stock. Gilles Massin is recorded as active around 1730-1740 and was active in the Belgian arms making center of Liege. This pair is featured on pages 468 and 469 of “The
Visser Collection Vol. 1 Part 4” by G. de Vries and B.J. Martens. The smoothbore barrels have rounded
blade front sights and long sighting flats that are signed “G MASSIN” in panels
surrounded by scroll engraving with textured gilt backgrounds. The same style of
engraving extends to the locks, iron furniture and mask designs on the pierced
side plates. The highly figured maple stock have classic molding and floral carving.
CONDITION: Very good with crisp engraving with bright original gold backgrounds throughout,
mostly silver-gray patina throughout, some mild pitting, and general mild wear. The stock is good and has some repaired cracks and chips and distinct molding and carving. Mechanically fine. Overall an extremely attractive pair of 18th century pistols.
B) G. Massin Holster Pistol - NSN, 55 cal., 12 inch round bbl., bright/gold finish,
maple stock. See “A.”
CONDITION: Very good with crisp engraving with bright original gold backgrounds throughout, mostly silver-gray patina throughout, some mild pitting, and general mild wear. The stock is fair and
has multiple splices and other repairs along with some dings and sceatches and distinct molding and carving. Mechanically fine.

Attractive Pair of Documented Engraved, Gilt, and Relief Carved Flintlock Holster Pistols by Laurent Lecomte of Liege Formerly in the Visser Collection
-A) Lecomte Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 62 cal., 13 inch round bbl., bright/gold finish, walnut stock. This pair of 20-bore (.62 caliber) pistols from c. 1730 by Laurent Lecomte is featured on pages 464-465 of “The Visser Collection Vol. 1 Part 4” by G. de Vries and B.J. Martens. They are signed “L LECOMTE” on the rounded
lock plates and feature scroll engraving with gilt textured backgrounds. The smoothbore barrels has round blade front sights and sighting flats. The furniture is iron and decorated en suite with the locks. The full-length walnut stocks have intricate molding and raised relief floral scroll
carving along with white inventory markings on the lower left by the triggers.
CONDITION: Fine with much of the original gilt finish remaining in the backgrounds of the engraving which remains crisp, mostly silver-gray patina throughout, some minor pitting, and general mild age and storage related wear. The stock is also fine and has crisp carving and molding, minor flakes, and some light dings and scratches. Mechanically fine.
B) Lecomte Flintlock Pistol - NSN, 58 cal., 13 inch round bbl., bright/gold finish, walnut stock. See “A.” CONDITION: Fine with most of the original gilt finish remaining in the backgrounds of the engraving, crisp engraving patterns, mainly silver-gray patina throughout, some minor pitting, and generally mild age and storage related wear. The stock is also fine and has crisp carving and molding, minor flakes and slivers absent at the edges, and some light dings and scratches. Mechanically fine.
