DWM Model 1902 Luger Semi-Automatic Carbine with Matching Shoulder Stock - Serial no. 21610, 7.65 mm Luger
Auto cal., 11 3/4 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut checkered stock, walnut checkered grips. This is a fine example of an early
DWM Model 1902 Luger carbine that is complete with an original matching number shoulder stock. These carbines were an attempt by DWM to a produce a lightweight rifle substitute. There were a total of 2,500 of this model ever produced in two serial number blocks with this specific pistol being in the first block of which only 1,100 total were made. The desirable features of these carbines are the early features such as the long frame, flat mainspring, grip safety, dished toggles, recessed/ flat breech bolt, and the 11 3/4 inch barrel. Due to the longer barrel, these carbines actually have a small spring accelerator mechanism in the forearm that helps function the pistol during the cycling phase. These were also fitted with the early style three position rear sight (adjustable from 100-300 meters) mounted on top of the barrel in front of the receiver and a bead front sight mounted on a ramp on top of the barrel. The top of the chamber is blank, and the front toggle has the DWM logo for “Deutsche Waffen und Munitions Fabriken”. The full serial number is correctly marked on the frame extension and the underside of the barrel. The last two digits of the serial number are marked on the bottom of the recoil lug, inside the forend, grip safety, trigger, takedown lever, side plate, breech bolt, and toggle assembly. It has been fitted with a set of replacement walnut grips with the right side marked “72” and the left side unnumbered. It comes with an original matching walnut shoulder stock and the black horn buttplate, lower sling swivel, with an original attaching iron that is numbered “610” on top. It comes with a nickel plated magazine with an unmarked wooden base. These pistols all have a rust blue finish with a straw color on the various small parts. CONDITION: Very fine as restored overall with 95% of the blue finish showing wear and handling on the edges and high spots overall and cycling/rub marks on the underside of the barrel, top of the barrel extension. The smaller parts retain 85% of their straw colors overall. The stock, forend and grips are all in very fine condition with nice, distinct checkering overall showing minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. A nice representative example of an early DWM Model 1902 Luger carbine. Provenance: The Robert Bretherton Collection; Property of a Gentleman. Estimate: 8,500 - 12,000
