    LOT 165
Factory Engraved Colt Officer’s Model Target Double Action Revolver - Serial no. 309672, 38 Special cal., 7 1/2 inch round bbl., blue finish, antique ivory grips. This highly attractive revolver was manufactured in 1909 and features elaborate factory engraving consisting primarily of traditional American scroll engraving with beaded backgrounds along with crosshatch and dot panels, floral and star accents, and double line and wavy borders. The engraving covers nearly all of the frame aside from the knurled back strap and smooth front strap, and the engraving on the barrel includes flourishes at the muzzle and interlacing line patterns with accents ahead of the two-line address and patent marking. The “C” and Rampant Colt trademark on the left side of the frame is contained in an oval panel among the scrollwork. It is fitted with a pair of smooth special order grips with golden Colt medallions. A large “4” is marked inside the right panel. Some of the engraving patterns are essentially identical to patterns seen on sn. 313120 sold by Rock Island Auction Co. in December 2023. The revolver was factory documented as shipped to various dealers through the Loan Account a for use as a display piece. The current revolver actually features more extensive engraving. CONDITION: Fine with crisp engraving and markings, 60% plus original blue finish, some thinning on the barrel and grip straps, an empty screw hole at the top of the front strap below the rebound lever, and generally minor overall wear. The period replaced factory grips are also very good and have attractive natural aged tones, a couple of small chips at the lower edge of the left panel, and light handling wear. Mechanically functions although the cylinder does not always lock up.
