LOT 1410
World War II Ward LaFrance U.S. M1A1 Heavy Wrecker Truck -
Offered here is a 6x6 Ward LaFrance U.S. M1A1 heavy wrecker truck. 4,925 of the M1 and M1A1 heavy wrecker trucks were reportedly manufactured by Ward LaFrance Truck Corporation between 1941- 1945, and Kenworth also manufactured approximately 840 between 1942-1945. The M1A1 heavy wrecker was part of a line of tactical trucks made to be able to operate over all roads and cross-country terrain. The heavy wrecker trucks were used to recover and move light armored vehicles and tanks including Shermans and Stuarts, with many of these trucks passed on to other countries after the war and some seeing service use into the 1990s. Power is supplied by a
a 5 speed transmission and 2 range transfer case, allowing this 31,000 pound truck to reach up to 45 mph with a 250 mile operational range. The truck is equipped with 20,000 pound front winch and a rear boom with capability to lift up to 16,000 pounds.
CONDITION: Very good, retains 90% faded green painted finish, with some areas of flaking and surface corrosion on the balance, and a cracked/partial red lens on the right rear. The interior is also very good, and appears to have most of its components, with light age- related wear on the seats. The tires are fine. The winches are untested. Mechanically runs fine. This M1A1 heavy wrecker truck is a must have to accompany a tank collection!
