Factory Engraved John Rigby & Co. Backaction Hammer
Double Rifle in .500 Black Powder Express - Serial no. 14861,
500 Black Powder Express cal., 26 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened
finish, walnut stock. This rifle was built between 1875 and 1880 per the information given
on page 128 of Nigel Brown’s “British Gunmakers Volume One: London”. Blued steel barrels with
blade front and two leaf (one standing, one folding) rear sight on the matted solid rib which is marked “John Rigby & Co. Dublin & London”, front sling swivel, light engraving band at the breeches, correct period
London proofs, and chambers with single extractor. The casehardened rotary underlever backaction displays highly attractive floral scroll engraving, Rigby signatures on
either lockplate, and scroll extending to the hammers, underlever, and both tangs. The rifle features non-rebounding hammers, hammer bars, and double triggers. Nicely figured, multi-point
checkered splinter forend with rotary latch and engraved fittings and pistol grip stock with horn grip cap and checkered steel buttplate. Length of pull 14 1/2 inches. Weight 9 lbs. 13 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 90% plus original blue finish, 50% of original case colors in the protected areas with a fine grey patina on the balance, and overall light handling/use evidence. The pistol grip has been broken and nicely repaired; otherwise, the wood is also very fine with some dings and scratches and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 6,000 - 9,000

Charles Lancaster Rotary Underlever Backaction Hammer Double Rifle with Case
- Serial no. 05080, 500 cal., 28 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock.
Manufactured in 1883 per page 121 of Nigel Brown’s “British Gunmakers Volume One: London”.
Built with blued steel barrels featuring a beaded blade front sight and a fixed rear sight on the matted solid rib, “CHARLES
LANCASTER 151. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON” and “PATENT SMOOTH BORE BREECH LOADING RIFLE” marked on the left and right respectively, London black powder proofs, and chambers with a single extractor. Both barrels are proofed at “38” gauge which equates to 50
caliber, likely .500 Black Powder Express based on the measurements of the included snap caps. The barrels are fitted to a casehardened hammer fired Jones rotary underlever backaction with “CHARLES LANCASTER,/LONDON” marked on either lockplate. The rifle features non-rebounding
hammers, safety bars, and dual triggers. The rifle is mounted with a nicely figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend and a pistol grip stock with casehardened grip cap, “W.S.W.” in the inscription oval, and a blued steel buttplate. Included is a wood and canvas takedown case, snap caps, oiler, and cleaning tools. Length of pull 14 1/2 inches. Weight 8 lbs. 3 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine overall, retaining 85% plus original blue finish, 60% original case colors with the balance a fine grey patina, some thinning on the barrels, and overall light handling evidence. The re-varnished wood is very good with a few light dings and scratches and overall sharp recut checkering. The case is very fine. Mechanically excellent.

Unique Norwegian Jarmann M28 Bolt Action Harpoon Rifle with Case, Harpoons and Ammunition - Serial no. 15280, 10.15x61R cal., 19 1/2 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Converted from the Norwegian Jarmann Model 1884 military rifle, capable of firing both standard ammunition and harpoons. Includes a large period wood storage case with nine steel harpoons, an assortment of 10.15x61R standard cartridges and blank cartridges for firing harpoons (some sealed in tins), steel braided
wire and an oiler.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 95% arsenal modified and refurbished blue finish with scattered light scratches, 40% case colors concentrated mostly on the cocking knob fading to smooth silvery- gray patina on the balance. Arsenal modified stock is also very fine with scattered scratches and handling marks, and defined edges. Mechanically excellent. Case and accessories are very good. Estimate: 4,000 - 6,000
