Exceptional Factory Engraved Marlin Deluxe Model 1893 Lever Action Takedown Rifle - Serial no. 200133, 30-30 cal., 26 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock.
This factory engraved Marlin 1893 rifle was manufactured in 1900. The casehardened receiver is wonderfully engraved with Marlin’s No.2 pattern which features scroll, borders, and two game scenes
on the receiver. The left panel game scene depicts a hound chasing down a stag, and the panel on the right side features a standing whitetail buck. Additional scroll patterns appear on the exposed barrel flats at
the breech, takedown collar, and forend cap. The Marlin patterns, including the engraving on this rifle, were designed by Conrad Ulrich who was influenced by the 19th century masters L.D. Nimschke and Gustave Young. Ulrich spent a lifetime embellishing some of the finest high art firearms of the late 19th century to early 20th century. The rifle is fitted with a German silver blade front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight. The top barrel flat carries the two-line Marlin legend ahead of the rear sight and the caliber designation “30-30” at the breech. The top of the receiver is marked “MARLIN SAFETY.” The upper tang is marked “MODEL/1893.” Mounted with very nicely figured and uncheckered walnut forearm and straight grip stock. The buttstock has a large blank initial shield and a casehardened crescent buttplate.
