Cased, Gold Inlaid, and Engraved Beckwith Double Barrel Flintlock Shotgun - Serial no. 1022, 20 gauge, 28 inch solid rib bbl., brown/casehardened/silver/blue
finish, walnut stock. William Andrew Beckwith was Wattel Clark’s apprentice in 1785, free of the Gunmakers Co. in 1801, assistant and livery in 1805, and master first in 1808. He opened his own business at 58 Skinner Street, Snow Hill, London, and died in 1841 per Blackmore. The Damascus barrels have a bead front sight, “---BECKWITH LONDON ---” signed on top of the rib in gold inlay, and “1022 F” on the undersides at the breech. The locks have “BECKWITH” in gold ovals, rainproof pans, frizzen spring rollers, and some light floral, bird, and border engraving. The furniture also has burst, floral, and hunting themed engraving. The ramrod entry pipe and wedge escutcheons are silver, and the former has a stylized pineapple finial. The trigger plate finial also has a pineapple finial, and the trigger guard bow has a dog and bird scene. The stock has a checkered wrist and oval cheekpiece. The gun comes in a relined case with shot and powder flasks, a leather wallet with a cleaning kit, and flints. CONDITION: Very good with nearly all of the refinished brown and distinct twist patterns along the barrels, light original case colors, mottled gray and brown patina on the balance, absent lock screw, and some mild oxidation. The stock is also very good with crisp checkering, minor scratches and dings, internal cracking, some faint repairs, and nice figure. Mechanically fine. The relined case and the accessories are very good and have minor wear. Estimate: 3,000 - 5,000
LOT 3332 Attractive Engraved and Inlaid 16-Bore Flintlock Sporting Gun - NSN, 16 gauge, 41 inch round bbl., blue/gold finish, walnut stock. This Continental European sporting gun from around the second quarter of the 18th century has a fire blued smoothbore barrel with a gilt brass blade front sight, long sighting flat, inlaid brass stars patterns along with engraved moon and additional stars on the breech end, and a rear sight groove in the humped breech tang. The brass lock plate has a maker’s mark that appears to be the letters “IH” over a rooster partially covered by the frizzen spring. It also has a martial and disgorging mask engraving and a faceted priming pan. The furniture is gilt brass. The sideplate is a fine pierced scroll design with a green man mask. The heel finial has floral patterns. The stock has some Dutch style carved molding with floral accents. CONDITION: Fine with fading original fire blue finish mixed with smooth gray patina on the barrel, distinct star and moon designs at the breech, distinct designs on the lock and furniture, aged patina on the brass, absent front side nail, and minor overall wear. The refinished stock has a some minor cracks and repairs, distinct molding, and minor marks and scratches. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 3,000 - 4,500
LOT 3333 Finely Engraved J.C. Reilly 8 Bore Single Barrel Percussion Shotgun - Serial no. 7802, 8 gauge, 41 1/4 inch round bbl., brown finish, walnut stock. The smoothbore, Damascus barrel has a nickel-silver bead front sight, “J.C. REILLY NEW OXFORD ST LONDON” and a burst pattern on top, ribs at the breech, and a scroll engraved breech plug. The standing breech has scroll and burst engraving. The flat lock is signed “REILLY” and also has scroll engraving as does the furniture. The lower tang has the serial number. The half-length stock has a horn forend cap, checkered wrist, and vacant nickel-silver wrist escutcheon. CONDITION: Very good overall with mostly smooth brown patina, some light pitting, and general
mild wear. The refinished stock is also very good with crisp checkering, nice figure, and a filled spot in the butt. Mechanically excellent.

Finely Engraved George Allen 7 Bore Deluxe Percussion Shotgun - NSN, 7 gauge, 36 1/4 inch round bbl., brown/casehardened/blue finish, deluxe checkered walnut stock. The smoothbore, Damascus barrel has a bead front sight “GEOE ALLEN ST MARYS SQUARE BIRMINGHAM” signed on the concave sighting flat, ribs at the breech, and a scroll engraved breech plug with platinum plug. The flat lock is signed “GEO. ALLEN” and has a partridge scene and scroll panel scene engraving. The trigger guard has a floral finial and a dog scene on the bow. The sterling silver wrist escutcheon is marked “H.L. PETERS.” The buttplate has scroll engraving. The stock has a dark horn forend cap, checkering, and attractive figure. 14 inch length of pull. CONDITION: Very good as period refinished mixed with patina, some mild pitting, repaired hammer, aged patina on the silver, and crisp checkering on the fine highly figured stock.
