LOT 195 Engraved and Inlaid Don King Contemporary Flintlock American Long Rifle - NSN, 45 cal., 43 3/4 inch octagon bbl., brown/bright finish, curly maple stock. U.S. Marine Corps veteran and gunmaker Don King (1930-
2018) was a talented and well-respected maker of a wide variety of traditional contemporary muzzle-loaders and was awarded the Contemporary Longrifle Association’s Pioneer Award in 2010. The rifle features traditional dovetailed blade and notch sights, sunken gold lined “DK” maker’s marks on the barrel and lock, single trigger, scroll engraved trigger guard and side plate, “S” inscribed silver wrist escutcheon, silver wire inlays on the cheekpiece, a wood patchbox lid, and short toe plate. CONDITION: Excellent with 90% plus original finish, some light spotting mainly on the lock, and light aged patina forming on the brass and silver. The stock is also excellent and has crisp molding along the ramrod channel, beautiful flame figure, and minor handling and storage marks. Mechanically excellent.

Attractive Contemporary Engraved, elaborately Silver Inlaid, and Incise Carved Swivel Breech Superposed Barrel Flintlock American Long Rifle by Art Holly - NSN, 45 cal., 34 7/8 inch octagon bbl., brown/bright/silver finish, maple stock. This beautiful rifle was built by early contemporary builder Art Holly, likely around the 1960s. One of the 3/4 inch wide straight Bill Large barrels is signed “A Holly,” and both have dovetailed
blade and notch sights and engraving including scrollwork and bow and
arrow motifs. The lock mechanism, brass furniture, and brass and silver furniture are also engraved, including a
federal eagle and shield design on the cheekpiece, and the stock features incised carved accents.
CONDITION: Very fine overall with nearly all of the thin original brown finish remaining on the barrels, bright lock, aged patina on the silver
and brass, darker patina on the patchbox, and crisp engraving and carving throughout. Mechanically fine.
LOT 197 20th Century Engraved, Inlaid, and Relief Carved William Buchele Flintlock Kentucky Pistol - NSN, 45 cal., 10 inch octagon bbl., brown finish, curly maple stock. William Buchele (1895-1977) remains highly influential as the author of the book “Recreating the American Longrifle” which has helped guide other generations of rifle builders and produced many fine muzzleloaders and muzzleloading accoutrements. This pistol’s rifled straight octagon barrel has a dovetailed blade front sight, dovetailed notch rear sight “W. Buchele” signed on top. The barrel and

“MASLIN/WARRANTED” Russ Hamm lock have an antiqued brown finish. The furniture is brass and primarily features raised floral scroll patterns along with an eagle on the pommel cap. The curly maple stock has raised relief scroll and floral carving at the barrel tang and nickel-silver scroll inlays with brass inlaid floral blooms and engraved accents. CONDITION: Very fine overall with nearly all of the original “antique” brown finish remaining, some light oxidation, small flaws in the furniture and stock, and mostly minor age and storage related wear. Engraved, Inlaid, and Relief Carved 20th Century Flintlock “Kentucky Pistol” by William Buchele - NSN, 45 cal., 9 1/2 inch octagon bbl., brown finish, curly maple stock. William Buchele (1895-1977) was a talented and influential 20th century artisan who produced a wide array of muzzleloading firearms and related items such as powder horns and tomahawks. He has remained highly influential as the author of the book “Recreating the American Longrifle” which has helped guide other generations of rifle builders. This pistol’s rifled straight octagon barrel has a dovetailed silver blade front sight, dovetailed notch rear sight “W. Buchele” signed on top. The barrel and Russ Hamm lock have an antiqued brown finish. The furniture is brass and primarily features raised floral scroll patterns along with an eagle on the pommel cap. The curly maple stock has raised relief scroll and floral carving at the barrel tang and nickel-silver floral scroll inlays with engraved accents. CONDITION: Very fine overall with nearly all of the original brown finish, some light oxidation and tool marks, and generally minor wear. The stock has a few small repaired cracks and similar flaws that appear to be from the original build and displays attractive figure and distinct carving. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 1,400 - 2,250

Attractive Engraved and Inlaid Pipe Tomahawk by William Buchele, Author of “Recreating the American Longrifle” - This contemporary pipe tomahawk is not
signed but was made by talented artisan William Buchele (1895-1977). It is very similar to
signed examples of his work we have sold recently and uses some of the same motifs. The
head is mostly iron with attractive filework, scroll/floral engraving, and brass bowl and accents.
The smooth curly maple shaft has a German silver federal style eagle on one side, two double arrows,
wire inlays, and a German silver mouthpiece.
CONDITION: Very fine. The iron displays an attractive, custom aged brown finish/patina. The brass shows attractively aged patina, and the German silver is bright. The shaft is also very fine with a few minor
dings and scratches and nice flame figure.
