Crisp bordered script “JT” (John Taylor) and “W.A.T.” (William A. Thornton) inspection cartouches stamped on the
left and right grips respectively, and both grips are also stamped with inventory number “1496” attributed to
the U.S. Cartridge Company collection. High polish blue finished barrel, frame and cylinder, casehardened loading lever, hammer, trigger, ring lever and trigger guard, and oil finished walnut grip panels.
CONDITION: Excellent plus, nearly as issued overall, retains 98% plus highly attractive original bright high polish blue finish and 98% vivid original case colors with some minor fading on top of the hammer, a few scratches notable
on the left sideplate, zero evidence of firing around the percussion nipples, and absolutely sharp markings and edges in the metal overall. Grips are also excellent with rich original oil finish, a few light scratches, and distinct edges and stamps. Mechanically excellent. This is one of the finest
Civil War U.S. martially inspected Savage Navy revolvers extant, and would be nearly impossible to improve upon! Provenance: The Andrew Singer Collection.
