Swiss
Contract
Mauser
Model 1934/06
Commercial Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol - Serial
no. 1909v, 7.65 mm Luger Auto cal., 4 3/4 inch round
bbl., blue/straw finish, walnut grips. A fine example of a
inter-war manufactured Mauser Model 1934/06 Commercial
Luger pistol made for the existing DWM Swiss contract.
During World War I, DWM was unable to fulfill the Swiss demand
for Luger pistols and resumed in 1919. When Mauser took control of DWM in
May 1930, all the Luger manufacturing equipment along with the unfinished Swiss
contract pistols were included and moved to Suhl, Germany. These pistols were subsequently finished and marked by Mauser, serialized with a “v” suffix where DWM left
off. It is estimated that only 217 grip safety frames from DWM were available for Mauser
to finish, making this a very scarce variation for Luger collectors. It features fixed blade front and notch rear sights, Swiss sunburst crest on top of the chamber, and Mauser banner on the front toggle link. Both the barrel and extension are marked with “crown/crown/U” proofs. Matching visible serial numbers located on the bottom of the barrel and front of
frame, with two digit “09” partials marked on smaller components including the side of
the extension. Extractor
marked “GELADEN”
and safety bright in the
lower position. Fitted with straw
colored small parts and pair of
unmarked checkered walnut grips. The nickel finished magazine has an unmarked
aluminum base. A portion of leather strap is sowed onto the lanyard loop.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, retaining 90% plus arsenal refurbished blue and 85% plus straw finishes with minor edge wear, light handling marks, and crisp grip checkering. Mechanically excellent.
Estimate: 2,750 - 4,000

Swiss Military Luger Semi-
Automatic Pistol with Rare “E” Letter Prefix Serial
Number - Serial no. E.790, 7.65 mm Luger Auto cal.,
4 3/4 inch round bbl., blue/straw finish, walnut grips. An
example of a third variation Model 1900 Swiss military
contract Luger with the “E” prefix serial number, discussed on
page 27 of “The Swiss Variations” by Fred Datig. Only a very few
pistols in the “E588 to E735” serial number range have been reported, with many
being re-serialized with an “A” suffix. These pistols were further used as test pistols by
the Swiss and subsequently upgraded, as is the case with this example which is fitted
with Model 1906 style mainspring, toggle assembly, and bolt. Features fixed blade front
and “U” notch rear sights, rapid taper barrel, old style long frame, and grip safety. The top
of the chamber is marked with Swiss “cross in shield” crest, and “DWM” monogram is on the
front toggle link. The left side of the barrel extension is marked with Swiss “cross” and “P50,”
indicating release for private sale in 1950, along with another “cross” proof on the side of the
barrel. Matching visible serial numbers on the barrel and frame, with “790” on the
extension and rear toggle, along
with “90” partials on the side
plate, front toggle link, and
bolt. Fitted with niter blue
and straw colored small
parts, along with a set of
checkered walnut grips. The
nickel finished magazine is fitted
with a hardwood base with aluminum inserts.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 75% plus arsenal refurbished blue finish and straw colors with scattered light handling marks, faint spotting, minor thinning on the grip frame and safety, and crisp grip checkering. Mechanically needs work as the trigger does not properly function.
