FROM MOTHER & BROTHER XMAS 1927”, and “W. LEE SLAYTON SYLVANIA, OHIO” on the right. W. Lee Slayton was an advertising executive and real estate man from Ohio. The blued action has a matted front receiver ring with engraved borders, jeweled bolt, and a Lyman peep sight. The blued bottom metal displays fine floral scroll engraving as well as scrollwork on the magazine floorplate surrounding a gorgeous highly detailed bull moose standing proudly in a forest scene as well as “GRIFFIN & HOWE INC./NEW YORK” in banners towards the front. While the engraving is not signed, the time period and quality of work suggest that it may have been completed by highly renowned Master Engraver Rudolph Kornbrath, though this cannot be positively confirmed. The rifle is mounted in a beautifully figured and multi-point checkered pistol grip stock with horn tip, engraved steel grip cap, blank inscription oval, raised cheekpiece, rear sling eyelet, and a checkered steel trapdoor buttplate.
CONDITION: Very fine as built by Griffin & Howe, retaining 95% plus blue finish with some loss on the triggerguard and some minor handling evidence. There is a professionally repaired crack through the wrist which is mostly covered by the sharp checkering along with a few other scattered light dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. This is a great chance to own a fantastic American made rifle with a story to tell! Estimate: 8,000 - 12,000
