Hand Colored Collotype Print of L.A. Huffman’s “Two Moon Interview” with Coloration Stencils - L.A. Huffman (1835-
1931), an immensely influential and historically important frontier photographer of the American West, documented Montana’s cowboys, ranchers, landscapes and native populations in their natural states. “Two Moon Interview,” is a 10 inch by 8 inch hand- colored collotype of famed Chief Two Moons that Huffman had befriended. Two Moon is most known for his participation in the Battle of the Greasy Grass where George Armstrong Custer famously met his demise. Following his defeat at the Battle of Wolf Mountain, he served as a Native American scout under famed General Nelson Miles. Due to his personable nature, Two Moons was made the Chief of the Cheyenne Northern Reservation in southern Montana. In the image Two Moons shows him talking to an unnamed journalist. Written across the bottom of the print in Huffman’s own hand “1913/Huffman” and “77B Cheyenne Chief Two Moon Aug 1910. aged, blind.” Included with the print are two signed stencils used to color this vary print.
CONDITION: Excellent with a distinct image and crisp coloration. This would make an incredible addition to any western display! Provenanc The John Fox Collection.
