Scarce U.S. Harpers Ferry Model 1855 Percussion Rifle Dated 1860 - NSN, 58 cal., 40 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. The model 1855 rifles were manufactured at Harpers Ferry in 1857-1861. Around 8,700 were produced, of which 5,151 had iron mounts. It has standard markings and features including an “1860” dated lock, a partly obscured barrel date that appears to be the same, “V/P/eagle head” proofs on the left quarter of the breech, eagle and shield motif on the primer door, blade front sight, a sword bayonet lug, rear sight with flip-up leafs, iron fittings, left stock flat stamped with two bordered script inspection cartouches, and “US” marked buttplate tang. Includes an extra nipple and worm tool inside the patchbox. CONDITION: Very good, with traces of brown finish on the once cleaned barrel, 30% applied niter blue finish on the lower trigger guard/tang assembly and buttplate, with
moderate flash pitting, scattered patches of light freckling and corrosion, defined lock markings, a obscured barrel date, and defined breech proofs. Stock is fine with scattered scratches and dents, a few small chips, a crack visible behind the lock, and defined edges. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 4,500 - 7,000

Scarce U.S. Springfield Model 1847 Percussion Cavalry Saddle Ring Musketoon - NSN, 69 cal., 26 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. Reportedly, 5,802 Model 1847 Cavalry Musketoons were manufactured between 1848-1859, with many subsequently arsenal altered to different configurations. These musketoons were used by the army in conflicts with Native Americans in the 1850s and during the Civil War. The Cavalry model features a ramrod retention swivel and a saddle bar and ring on the left side. The lock is marked with eagle and shield at the center above “US” with “SPRING/ FIELD/1851” at the tail, and the matching date “1851” on the barrel tang, “V/P/eagle head” proofs on the left quarter of the breech, “US” marked on the buttplate, with an oval script “ESA” inspection cartouche stamped on the left stock flat of Springfield Armory’s Master Armorer Erskine S. Allin. CONDITION: Fine as cleaned to a bright on the iron surfaces with some scattered light pitting, clear markings on the lock and breech, and bright golden patina on the brass. Stock is fine as re-oiled, with discreet filled in repairs at some of the edges, some light scratches and dents, and a defined cartouche. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,500 - 3,750

U.S. Springfield Model 1847 Artillery Percussion Musketoon - NSN, 69 cal., 26 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. Reportedly, 3,359 Springfield Model 1847 Artillery Musketoons were manufactured between 1848-1859, with many subsequently arsenal altered to different configurations. These musketoons were used by the army in conflicts with Native Americans in the 1850s and during the Civil War. The Artillery model features a lower stud for use with a socket bayonet, sling swivels mounted on the bottom of the rear barrel band and bottom of the buttstock, and a trumpet-head ramrod. The front barrel band has a brass blade front sight on the upper strap. Eagle with shield above “US” at the center of the lock with “SPRING/FIELD/1853” at the tail of
the lock, “1852” dated barrel tang, “V/P/eagle head” proofs on the left quarter of the breech, and the left stock flat is stamped with a circled script “ADK” cartouche.
CONDITION: Very good showing untouched darkened brown appearance overall, some scattered mild pitting and corrosion, and clear markings on the lock and barrel. Stock is also very good with a visible cartouche, scattered scratches and dents, a crack on the left ahead of the rear lock screw, and defined edges. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,250 - 3,500
LOT 1224 U.S. Springfield Model 1855 Percussion Rifle-Musket with Long Range Sight - NSN, 58 cal., 40 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. Between 1857-1861, 47,115 Model 1855 rifle-muskets were manufactured at Springfield Armory, and another 12,158 were manufactured at Harpers Ferry. The Model 1855 was the first U.S. martial arm designed for use with Minie bullets in .58 caliber, giving it a considerable advantage in accuracy and effective range over earlier military rifles. These rifles were widely used in the Civil War and first saw action in the Coeur d’Alene War in the Pacific Northwest in 1858. This example has an “1858” dated lock and barrel with standard markings and early features including the standard front sight/bayonet lug, early long range style rear sight graduated 1-4 on the base and 5-8 on the ladder, all iron fittings aside from the brass forend cap, partly visible script inspection cartouches stamped on the left stock flat, and “US” marked buttplate tang. CONDITION: Good, with lightly cleaned iron surfaces, some scattered light pitting and freckling, and visible markings. Stock is also good as lightly sanded and re-oiled, with some light scratches. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 1,500 - 2,500
LOT 1225 Civil War U.S. Remington “Model 1863 Zouave” Percussion Rifle - NSN, 58 cal., 33 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. 12,501 of these rifles were manufactured by Remington between 1862-1865 during the Civil War for the Union. Government records listed them as “Harpers Ferry Pattern” rifles, and they have similarities to both the Model 1841 and Model 1855 rifles that were manufactured at Harpers Ferry prior to the Civil War but are of a unique pattern. Whether or not any of these rifles saw use in the war remains unclear and debated. “1863” dated lock and barrel. Left stock flat stamped with two boxed script inspection cartouches. “B.H.” (Benjamin Hannis) inspection initials marked on the left barrel flat at the breech with “US/VP” and an eagle head proof on top. CONDITION: Very good, retains most of the custom refinished blue finish on the barrel with some patches of light pitting visible underneath the finish, gray patina on the lock and hammer with some freckling and pitting, and bright golden patina on the cleaned brass. Refinished stock is also very good with scattered dents and scratches. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 1,200 - 1,800
