Outstanding Documented Ray Viramontez Master Engraved and Gold Inlaid Colt Government Model Semi-Automatic Pistol with Factory and Viramontez Letters - Serial no. 302838-C, 45 ACP cal., 5 inch round bbl., blue/bright finish, laminated grips. Originally manufactured in 1966, this Colt Government Model was subsequently beautifully embellished by Master Engraver Ray Viramontez, who began engraving in around 1967 and continued until around his death in 2016. The included factory letter lists shipment to Miami Valley Shooting Grounds in Vandalia, Ohio on 18 May 1966. Also included with the pistol is a letter to Viramontez from a former owner of
the pistol, inquiring about photographs of the pistol, as well as a reply from Viramontez stating that he has sent photo transparencies so that photos could be printed. The photo transparencies and a printed photo is also included. The pistol itself has been extensively embellished by Viramontez, with about 90% of the surfaces showing beautifully executed floral scroll engraving. The sides of the slide are finished bright and feature a detailed, relief, gold inlaid cougar on the left, and a wild boar on the right. The
bright panels on the slide are bordered in alternating, roped gold and silver bands. The top of the slide and forward lower portion are not engraved and finished in an attractive polished blue. The sides of the frame have matching floral scroll engraving along with gold inlaid borders and flourishes of
scroll on each side towards the front and each side near the grip safety. The serial number is inlaid in gold on the right of the frame. The floral scroll engraving as well as some basket weave patterns
also extend to the sides of the slide stop, hammer,
mainspring housing, grip safety, and thumb safety.
It is fitted with blade and notch sights and a pair of smooth laminated grips.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine as masterfully embellished by Ray Viramontez, retaining 99% plus of the blue finish, the panels on the slide remain bright, and nearly of the gold and silver inlay remains with only the slightest handling marks and crisp engraving. The grips are excellent with only the slightest handling marks. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 7,500 - 11,000
