U.S. Winchester M1D Garand Semi-Automatic Sniper Rifle with M84 Scope, FOIA Letter, CMP Certificate and Case - Serial no. 2404255, 30-06 Springfield cal., 24 inch round bbl., parkerized finish, walnut stock. Receiver originally manufactured in March of 1944 and subsequently arsenal upgraded to the M1D sniper configuration, a procedure more typically performed on Springfield-made M1 rifles. Sniper rifles so converted were used during Korea and the Vietnam War. Blade front and peep rear sights, “DRC” windage drum, “S-A-2-52” barrel, with a Springfield bolt, trigger housing, safety, hammer, and relief cut operating rod. The walnut stock has a DoD eagle cartouche stamped on the left wrist and a checkered steel buttplate. The M84 scope is numbered “31488”, with a sliding sunshield and rubber eyepiece. Fitted with a “MRT/11-62” leather cheek piece. Includes a plastic CMP hardcase, April 13, 2018 dated CMP Certificate of Authenticity, and a February 25, 2022 dated Department of the Army Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request that lists this rifle by serial number as received by the CMP in Anniston from Greece in 2008. CONDITION: Very fine as arsenal upgraded to M1D configuration, retains 98% parkerized finish with a few light scratches and some light edge wear. The arsenal refurbished replacement stock is also very fine with a few light handling marks and defined edges. Scope is excellent, retains 97% original blue finish on the tube with a few light scratches, some patches of minor freckling, and crisp clear
optics. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 3,500 - 4,750

Excellent U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1903A1 National Match Bolt Action Rifle with Accessories - Serial no. 1519860, 30-06 Springfield cal., 24 inch round bbl., parkerized/blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured circa 1938-1939. Features fixed blade front and folding ladder rear sights (sans volley notch),
“SA/1-38” marked barrel with “*” star gauge mark at the muzzle and “B/2270/T” mark under the handguard, and polished “N.S.” marked bolt with matching electro-penciled serial number on the body. Fitted with a smooth walnut semi-pistol grip “S” stock, with “D-1839” part number and matching “1519860” serial number struck on top of an older serial number under the butt, dual “circle P” firing proofs on the
pistol grip, dual “S.A./S.P.G.” cartouches on the left side, and fitted with a heavy checkered steel trapdoor buttplate, topped off with a “D28179” numbered handguard. Includes a “P.J. O’HARE” marked National Match muzzle/front sight cover, and rear sight cover, and rear sight micrometer, along with a brass hooked and “G.&K./1918/H.H.B.” marked Model 1907 leather sling.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 95% plus original parkerized finish with minor edge wear at the muzzle, limited spotting, limited thinning, and minor handling marks. Stock is exceptionally fine as period arsenal reworked with well-defined cartouches and drawing numbers. Mechanically excellent. Accessories are fine to very fine.

Sniper Rifle with Case - This
is one of the approximately
2,800 scopes developed and
manufactured c.1940 for the
U.S. Marine Corps to be installed on 1903 National Match rifles by USMC/ Navy armorers (a combination also known as the “USMC 1941 Sniper”). The scopes themselves were kept in inventory after World War II, seeing re-issue as late as Vietnam. It is marked “J. Unertl/USMC-SNIPER/1244”
on the main body tube ahead of “8”, with a rail-guided sliding aluminum front ring, and an adjustable Unertl marked rear ring. Included with the scope is a green paint finished Bakelite field case fitted with a canvas lid retainer and belt loop, and a spring loaded interior.
CONDITION: Excellent overall with minor wear. Optics clear. Case in very good shape.
