Factory Game Scene Engraved Merkel Feres Over/
Under Shotgun - Serial no. 96366, 12 gauge, 28 inch vent
rib bbl., blue/coin finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in April 1985 (485) date mark. Built with blued Laufstahl barrels with a
single brass bead sight on the
matted vent rib, Birmingham
proofs, import mark under the
forearm, 2 3/4 inch chambers; and interchangeable chokes, interchangeable chokes (1/4
and 3/8 installed), and floral scroll at the chamber. The barrels are mated to a bolstered coin sidelock action which displays game scenes consisting of a pointer flushing a covey of pheasant
on the left and a raptor swooping in on a pair of mallards on the right. The remaining surface of the action is engraved with flowing German scroll patterns with geometric motifs interlaced. The
action is fitted with double triggers (front trigger is articulated) and tang mounted manual safety. Mounted in a lightly figured, beautifully contrasted,
and multipoint checkered walnut three-piece forend with engraved fittings and Deeley latch release and straight grip stock with checkered wooden buttplate. Includes four extra chokes (5/8, 3/4, full, and 1/2) and a choke tool. Barrel and stock measurements (U/O): bore measured nine inches from the breech .725/.724 inches; minimum wall thickness .033/.032 inches; 1 7/16 inch drop at the comb; 2 1/8 inch drop at the heel; 14 9/16 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs. 8 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 95% original blue and coin finishes with some handling marks and crisp engraving. Wood is very fine with some handling marks, a stress line coming off
the upper tang, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 4,750 - 7,500
and barrels marked “KLEIN GUENTHER - SEGUIN/TEXAS” on the left side. The barrels have a single extractor, and the shotgun barrel has a 3 inch chamber and is choked .039 inches (full). The coin finished bolstered sideplated action features oak leaf
engraving surrounding game scenes on the left, underside, and right. The left has three roe deer, the underside is a ram, and the right is a hunter taking a chamois. The bolsters show deep chiseled oak leaf
engraving. Double triggers, bushed firing pins, and tang mounted safety switch. Nicely figured, deep oak leaf
carved forend with engraved fittings and Deeley latch release and pistol grip stock with cheekpiece. Length of pull 14 7/16 inches.
Weight 7 lbs.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue and coin finishes, minor handling evidence, plum coloration to part of the scope mount, and sharp stock carving. Mechanically excellent.
