Excellent Cased Pair of German Under Lever Single
Shot Target Pistols Retailed by A. Voelker of Buenos
Aires -A) Under Lever Target Pistol - Serial no. 547, 8 mm
cal., 9 3/4 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut grips. Adolph
Voelker was a retailer in Buenos Aires in the early 20th century. The barrels
are struck with post-1891 German proof marks and are signed “A. VOELKER,
BUENOS AIRES, SAN MARTIN 379” on the ribs and feature beaded blade front sights.
Matching serial numbers are found on various components. Screw adjustable
notch rear sights are fitted on the upper tangs. The pistols also feature border and scroll
engraving, single set triggers, checkered forearms and stocks, and a shared leather case with
“J.V.G.” inscribed on the lid escutcheon and a pair of cleaning rods.
CONDITION: Excellent with 95% plus original blue with scattered patches of light pitting, 97% vivid
casehardened finish remaining, and only minimal light handling and storage marks. The wood is also excellent
and has some light scratches and dings and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The case is very good
and has mild wear including some tears in the lining. B) Under Lever Target Pistol - Serial no. 548, 8 mm cal.,
9 3/4 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut grips. See “A.”
CONDITION: Excellent with 95% plus original blue with scattered light patches of pitting, 85% original
casehardened finish remaining, minimal light handling and storage wear, and some very faint spots of
oxidation. The wood is also excellent and has crisp checkering, minor scratches and dings, and smooth oiled
finish. Mechanically excellent.

Very Fine Cased, Engraved, and Gold
and Silver Inlaid C. Stiegele Jr. Breech Loading Target Pistol - Serial no.
7139, 8 mm cal., 9 3/4 inch ribbed round bbl., blue/silver/gold/casehardened
finish, walnut stock. This pistol was produced by Carl Stiegele Jr. in Munich c.
1863-1891 prior to the German proof law going into effect and has the “crown/V”
“vorrat” or “on hand” mark on the right side of the barrel lug. The ribbed round barrel
has a silver band at the muzzle, an adjustable bead front sight, “C. STIEGELE JUN. IN MUENCHEN.”
in silver and gold inlay, silver inlaid floral motifs and additional bands at the breech, and the serial
number overstamped over another number on the underside. The number is repeated on the pommel
cap. The pistol is equipped with an screw
adjustable notch rear sight, adjustable single
set trigger, rebounding back action
lock, push forward underlever,
and relief carved stock and forend.
The metal features relief engraved
scrollwork along with birds, a fox
with a swan or goose on the right,
and a dog chasing a bird on the left.
It comes in a fitted oak case with a
set of reloading and maintenance
tools. The caliber is not marked but gauges at approximately 8 mm.
CONDITION: Very fine with 75% plus original blue finish with some fading,
attractively age darkened patina on the silver inlays, bright gold inlays, mix of original
case colors and silver-gray patina on the balance with dark
backgrounds in the engraving, light marks and scratches, and
crisp engraving and carving. Mechanically excellent. The case
and accessories are fine with some age and storage related wear
including some oxidation. Overall, a very attractive cased German
breech loading target pistol from the 19th century.
