The model designation: “+ OFFICERS MODEL 38+” is located on the left side of the
barrel. The Rampant Colt trademark is located in a relief-carved circle on the left side
of the frame behind the cylinder latch. The Colt “VP/Triangle” proof is located on the
left side of the frame over the front trigger guard bow, and the assembler’s number
“3” is located over the rear trigger guard bow. “7” is stamped on the bottom of the
barrel in front of the frame. The serial number is located on the inside of the frame
well and on the cylinder crane. The revolver is extensively engraved with deeply
cut scroll designs on a punch-dot background by Colt Master Engraver Wilbur A.
Glahn. Glahn engraved Colt firearms from about 1919 to 1950 and is one of the
acknowledged 20th century master engravers.
CONDITION: Excellent. The revolver retains at 90% plus of the original blue finish.
Most of the finish wear is limited to the front grip strap and muzzle. The flawlessly
executed Germanic scroll engraving is deep and sharp. Markings are clear. The pearl
grips are excellent. Mechanically excellent. An outstanding example of Colt Officers
Model Target Revolver with factory Grade B engraving by one of the 20th century
master engravers.
