Scarce Documented Special Order Marlin Semi-Deluxe Model 1881 Lever Action Rifle with Factory Letter - Serial
no. 13793, 40-60 WCF cal., 26 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1886 in a very desirable special
order semi-deluxe configuration. The two-line address/patent marking is in front of the rear sight and caliber marking at the
breech, both on the top flat of the barrel. The serial number is on the bottom of the receiver, left side of the upper and lower
tangs, and inside the buttplate. It is fitted with beaded blade front and elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sights, as well as
a special order half magazine and double set triggers. It is mounted with the standard grade wood with diamond pattern
checkering on the forend and multi-point checkering on the wrist of the pistol grip stock which is fitted with a smooth steel
buttplate. The included factory letter lists the rifle in .40-60 caliber with a 26 inch barrel, set trigger, pistol grip stock, and a
half magazine when shipped on 29 September 1886.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 80% plus of the original high polish blue finish and 40% of the original case colors with the
balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina with some very light oxidation on the buttplate. The wood is also
very fine with some scattered minor dings and scratches and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
