Rare Book: “An Almain Armourer’s Album: Selections from
an Original Manuscript in Victoria and Albert Museum, South
Kensington” - “An Almain Armourer’s Album. Selections from an original
MS. in Victoria and Albert Museum, South Kensington. With Introduction
and Notes by Viscount Dillon” reproduced and printed by W. Griggs of
London in 1905. The armorer and author of the manuscript is believed
to be Jacob Topf (1530-1597) and was compiled by Master Armourer
Jacob Halder between 1557 and 1587. The colored plates within the book
illustrate various suits of armor owned by a variety of English nobles.
The notes are by Harold Dillon, 17th Viscount Dillon (1844-1932), former
president of the Royal Archaeological Institute and then president of the
Society of Antiquaries of London as and a founding fellow of the British
Academy and antiquary of the Royal Academy. He later served as the
president of the Society for Army Historical Research. The vellum bound
book measures 20 inches tall by 13 3/8 inches wide and 1 1/8 inches tall.
This rare book was acquired by Norman R. Blank from Francis Edwards
Ltd. in July 1958.
CONDITION: Good with mild shelf wear, minor tears forming in the spine
and corners, and distinct writing and illustrations with only minor wear.

Rare Book: “Armes et Armures du Moyen Age et de la
Renaissance” by Charles Asselineau - This impressive
book by Charles Asselineau (1820-1874) published by A.
Levy of Paris in 1864 features stunning plates illustrating a
wide variety of arms and armor across multiple centuries.
The book has marbled covers and a red leather spine and
measures 15 7/8 inches tall by 12 1/4 inches wide and 1
1/8 inches thick. The book was acquired by Norman R.
Blank from Ben H. Charon in December 1958.
CONDITION: Very good with mild shelf wear, distinct
illustrations, and minor overall wear.

by Alfons Diener-Schoenberg, 1912 - “Die
Waffen Der Wartburg” by Alfons Diener-
Schoenberg with photograph by Hans Lucas
von Cranach published in 1912 by Historische
Verlag Baum Gaertel of Berlin. The publication
in German features the arms and armor
collection of Grand Duke Wilhelm Ernst of
Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach. The hardcover book
measures 14 inches tall by 11 inches wide by 2
inches thick. Norman Blank acquired this book
from Arthur Yates in March of 1968.
CONDITION: Very good with moderate shelf
wear, a light circled “4” marking on the front
cover, and minor stains.
