Magnificent Factory Heym Signed, Game Scene Engraved, and Gold
Inlaid R. Wilke Stendebach 1905 Patent Double Rifle - Serial no. 171,
8x57 IRS cal., 23 inch solid rib bbl., blue/coin/gold finish, walnut stock. This
exceptional double rifle was built in 1991 on Carl Friedrich Stendebach’s
scarcely encountered 1905 patent action and is truly a wonder to behold. The
rifle was made with blued Krupp steel barrels featuring a ramped beaded
blade front sight, adjustable single leaf rear sight, gold inlaid “R. WILKE,
NAUEN” signature, and a flourish of floral engraving all on the matted flat
solid rib. The barrels also feature gorgeous gold inlaid floral vines at the top
and sides of the breech, a front sling swivel, import mark under the forend,
1991 dated German proof marks, and chambers with a single extractor. The
barrels are fitted to the coin finished Stendebach patent action which displays
extensive deep relief cut floral scroll engraving over a matted background
and surrounding three relief gold inlaid game scenes. The game scenes depict
a magnificent fallow deer buck, two does, and two fawns on the left side, a
bust of a mouflon ram on the underside, and a pack of boar hounds set upon
a boar on the right, all cut in fine detail. The engraving is signed “HEYM” on
the left side of the action for the exceptional master engraver who completed
this stunning piece of art. The rifle features double gold plated triggers, a
gold inlaid push forward underlever, cocking indicators, and a tang mounted
automatic safety with gold “S” indicator.
