The receiver, which was manufactured in 1905, was subsequently decorated with floral scrollwork
surrounded by dot and zig-zag line borders. The right side of the receiver has the addition of a circular vignette depicting
a buck in a woodland scene. The scrollwork and borders are similar to the ornamentation found the Winchester factory No. 9
pattern. Flourishes of scrollwork extend to the lever, hammer, takedown collar, forend cap, and barrel at the muzzle and breech.
Even the mount to the Lyman receiver sight is engraved. Single platinum bands are inlaid on the barrel at the breech and muzzle.
The extra 26 inch octagon barrel in .30 WCF is engraved and inlaid to match. Both barrels are fitted with a combination Beach front
sight, a “W” marked filler block in the rear sight dovetail, and a sling eyelet mounted on the underside of the forend cap and are
marked with the two-line Winchester legend ahead of the rear sight dovetail, respective caliber designation and Winchester factory
oval proof at the breech, and nickel steel marking on the upper left flat. An additional Winchester factory oval proof is stamped on
top of the receiver. The receiver is fitted with double set triggers. The upper tang has the three-line model/trademark information.
The highly figured deluxe walnut forearm and straight grip stock feature “H” pattern checkering, and the buttstock is fitted with
a hard rubber Winchester shotgun buttplate. The right side of the lower tang is marked “RS” and is the only marking on the tangs
under the stock. The stock inlet carries the assembly number “121.” The case features a Winchester leather label on the interior and
contains an oiler and container.
CONDITION: Very fine as professionally custom embellished and upgraded to current configuration by Roger Kurtz retaining 95% plus of
the blue finish with thinning on the magazine tube and some mild high edge wear. The hammer and lever retain 95% of the case colors.
The wood is excellent with a few scattered minor handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The extra .30 WCF barrel is also
excellent with 95% plus of the blue finish and crisp forearm checkering. The case is excellent.
