Master G. Ferrante
Signed and Deep Relief Engraved
Abbiatico & Salvinelli 28 Gauge Sidelock
Double Barrel Shotgun - Serial no. 257, 28
gauge, 26 13/16 inch solid rib bbl., blue/coin
finish, walnut stock. In 1967 Mario Abbiatico
and Remo Salvinelli founded Fabbrica Armi di
Mario Abbiatico e Remo Salvinelli, now more commonly
know as FAMARS. Since the beginning the two have been innovators and have made a name for themselves
creating some of the finest bespoke guns ever built. The gun is built with blued steel chopperlump barrels featuring a single nickel
bead sight on the smooth concave solid rib, “Abbiatico & Salvinelli” signed on the left tube, import mark under the forend, and
1979 dated Italian proofs showing 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrels are fitted to a highly attractive coin
finished sidelock action which shows off beautifully executed deep relief cut floral scroll engraving over a matted background
creating vivid contrast. The engraving continues off of the action and flows onto the triggerguard, toplever, and doth the upper
and lower tang, the lower of which is engraved with the serial number which is inlaid in gold. The engraving has been signed on the
triggerplate “INC. G. FERRANTE” to the right of the triggerguard for the Italian Master Engraver. The gun features bushed firing pins, a
single non-selective trigger, right hand rolled triggerguard, and a tang mounted manual safety with gold inlaid “S” indicator. The gun is fitted
with a beautifully figured and multi-point checkered semi-beavertail forend with engraved fittings, an Anson button release, and a blank A&S inscription shield along with a straight grip stock with
teardrop carved drop points and a checkered bare butt. Includes a generic soft case. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proofed at 14.2mm (.559
inches) and measured .564/.564 inches; choke constriction .016/.023 inches; 1 1/4 inch drop at comb; 2 1/4 inch drop at heel; 14 3/8 inch length of pull; slight cast-on; weight 5 lbs. 8 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue and coin finishes with minor handling evidence, a few tiny scratches on the barrels, some spotting along the rib, a few minor scratches on
the wood, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. Don’t miss this chance to own this fine example of fine Italian gunmaking!
Provenance: The Joe Bojalad Collection.
