Cased Pair of Engraved and Carved Percussion Dueling/Target Pistols
from Lizeray of Paris -A) Lizeray Percussion Pistol - Serial no. 155,
47 cal., 9 5/8 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock.
Manufactured c. 1860. The rifled barrels have dovetailed bead front sights,
foliate engraving at the muzzles, “Acier” (upper left) and “fondu” (upper right)
indicating fluid steel, and “Fni P Lizeray Bd des Italiens No 17 a Paris” signed
in script on top. The breech plugs and standing breeches are casehardened,
engraved, and inlaid with “1” and “2” respectively in gold. The locks and
furniture have scroll and border engraving. The figured walnut half-stocks
have relief scroll carving with textured backgrounds at the forends and fluted
wrists. “155” is marked on both pistols at the toe. The pair comes in an original
rosewood veneered case with “LIZERAY/A PARIS” in gilt lettering inside the lid
and some loading and maintenance equipment.
CONDITION: Good with mixed artificially enhanced dark gray and brown
patina, crisp engraving, light oxidation, and general mild age and storage
related wear. The stock is also good and has crisp carving and fluting and
various mild marks and scratches. Mechanically fine. The case and accessories
are generally good aside from some cracks and chips in the case exterior and
exhibit mild age and storage related wear.
B) Lizeray Percussion Pistol - Serial no. 155, 47 cal., 9 5/8 inch octagon bbl.,
blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. See “A.”
CONDITION: Good with mixed artificially enhanced dark gray and brown
patina, crisp engraving, light oxidation and pitting, and general mild age and
storage related wear. The stock is also good and has crisp carving and fluting,
minor cracks, and various mild marks and scratches. Mechanically fine.

Cased Pair of Engraved N. Guyot & Cie. Percussion
Dueling/Target Pistols -A) Guyot Percussion Pistol -
Serial no. 1105, 12 mm cal., 10 inch octagon bbl., blue/
casehardened finish, ebonized stock. These mid to late 19th
century pistols feature rifled barrels with dovetailed blade
front sights, “N. GUYOT & CIE ARQUEBUSIERS A PARIS” signed
on top flats, and Liege proof marks on the undersides. The breech plugs and standing
breeches are marked “1” on the first pistol and “2” on the second, and the standing breeches
are fitted with notch rear sights. The locks and furniture are scroll engraved. The trigger
guard tangs are numbered “1105”. The half-length stocks are ebonized and have panels of
checkering on the forends and wrists. The pair comes in an attractive ebonized case with a “CL”
monogrammed nickel-silver lid escutcheon, “GUYOT/12 RUE DE PONTHIEU/PARIS” marked inside
the lid, and a suite of loading and maintenance equipment.
CONDITION: Very fine with 95% plus original blue finish, 80% plus slightly muted original case colors, crisp
markings and engraving, and generally only minor storage wear. The stock is also very fine and has crisp
checkering and minimal marks. Mechanically fine. The case and accessories are generally fine with mild age
and storage related wear, including a few cracks and worn lining. B) Guyot Percussion Pistol - Serial no. 1105, 12 mm cal., 10 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, ebonized stock. As described in “A.”
CONDITION: Very fine with 95% plus original blue finish, 85% plus slightly muted original case colors, generally minor overall wear, a couple of tool marks on the barrel, and crisp engraving and markings. The stock is also very fine
and has crisp checkering, a few minor marks, and slight edge wear. Mechanically fine. Overall, this is a very attractive pair of French pistols.
