Engraved Pair of Johann Jacob Behr
Flintlock Holster Pistols with Brass
Barrels and Locks -A) J.J. Behr Holster
Pistol - NSN, 20 bore cal., 13 7/8 inch round
bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. Johann Jakob
Behr was active primarily in the Maastricht/Liege region from the 1690s to 1740s. These pistols have brass barrels, locks, and furniture.
The smoothbore barrels have silver blade front sights, long sighting flats, and foliate engraving. The “banana” profile locks are signed
“II-BEHR” and have faceted, bridle-less pans, beveled edges, and some small mask designs on the neck of the cocks. The furniture has a
mix of classical, floral, and mask patterns. The later wrist escutcheons are engraved with coronets over a “AVF” monogram.
CONDITION: Very good with the brass
displaying attractive aged patina, replacement
furniture, silver-gray patina on the cock and
frizzen, and moderate overall wear. The stock is
good and has several cracks, splices, and other
repairs, and chip absent at the nose of the lock.

CONDITION: Very good with aged patina on the brass throughout, replacement furniture, gray patina on the iron, and mild overall wear.
The stock is good and has several cracks, splices, and repairs. Full cock not holding, otherwise mechanically fair.

Pair of European Flintlock Horse Pistols with Relief Carved Stocks Brass Barrels and Locks -A) Flintlock Horse Pistol - NSN, 58
cal., 13 1/2 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut
stock. This interesting pair of c. mid-18th
century pistols are likely Dutch or Germanic
in origin. While brass lock plates are fairly rare,
this pair is particularly unusual in that even the
cock and frizzen are brass. The latter has a screw
affixed battery face. The inside of the first pistol’s
lock has a “crown/IA” marking. The smoothbore barrels have rounded blade front sights, chevron shaped designs ahead of the sighting
flats at the breech, and iron tangs. The furniture is also brass. The sideplates feature pierced scroll and dolphin designs. The pommels have
musicians on the sides and grotesque mask studs. The full-length stocks have attractive molding and scroll designs.
CONDITION: Fine with attractively aged patina visible on the brass including red tones along the top of the barrel, a crack in the side plate
at the front dolphin, and generally mild wear.
The refinished stock is very good with some
minor cracks and repairs, distinct carving
and molding, and mild scratches and dings.
Mechanically fine. B) Flintlock Horse Pistol -
NSN, 58 cal., 13 1/2 inch round bbl., bright finish,
walnut stock. See “A.”
CONDITION: Fine with attractively aged patina visible on the brass including red tones along the top of the barrel and generally mild
wear. The refinished stock is very good with some cracks and repairs concentrated in the forend, distinct carving and molding, and mild
scratches and dings. Mechanically fine.

Fine Italian Flintlock Pistol with Lazarino Cominazzo Signed Barrel and Relief Carved Stock - NSN, 48 cal., 12 3/4 inch part
round bbl., bright finish, maple stock. This c. early 18th century flintlock pistol from Northern Italy, likely Brescia, features a three-stage
smoothbore barrel with ribbed breech section signed “* LAZARINO * COMINAZZO *” on top. The rounded lock has “P S/L” signed towards
the center and some scroll designs. The mounts
are steel and feature scroll accents, a trefoil finial
on the trigger guard, a scrolling serpent side plate,
“RR” inscribed wrist escutcheon with a coronet,
and grotesque mask pommel cap. The highly
figured maple stock has raised relief scroll carving.
CONDITION: Fine with silver-gray patina overall, distinct designs and markings, and minor oxidation. The professionally restored stock is
very good with cracks and repairs, crisp carving, and stunning figure. Mechanically fine.
