Tokyo Arsenal Baby Nambu Semi-Automatic Pistol Rig with
Holster and Two Matching Magazines - Serial no. 3561, 7 mm
cal., 3 1/4 inch round bbl., blue finish, checkered hardwood grips.
Manufactured by the Tokyo Arsenal from 1909 to 1928, the Baby
Nambu was the semi-official officer’s pistol of the Imperial Japanese
Military; officers would privately purchase their sidearms, with the Baby
Nambu presented as the local alternative to imports from firms like
Colt, FN and Walther. Fixed sights, with the “stacked cannonball” arsenal
marking on top of the chamber and the nomenclature markings and
serial number on the right side of the frame. Fitted with checkered
grips. Both of the included magazines are nickel finished with alloy
bases, numbered to match the pistol, with one bearing the “.” marking
indicating the spare magazine. The firing pin, triggerguard and right
grip panel are unnumbered, with other components (including the left
grip panel) numbered to match. Included with the pistol is a brown
leather clamshell pattern holster with untranslated hand-written
markings inside the flap and a cleaning rod.
CONDITION: Excellent, with 90% plus of the arsenal refurbished
blue finish, showing mild brown patina concentrated on the
gripstraps and magazine well, along with minor handling marks
and edge wear. A small patch of pitting is present on the right side
of the frame, with a tiny chip in the wood in the same area, with
the grips otherwise fine with mild dings on the sharp checkering.
Mechanically excellent. The holster is good, with some cracking
and seam separation.
Estimate: 7,500 - 11,000
LOT 3459
Japanese Nagoya Arsenal Type 2 Bolt Action Paratrooper
Rifle - Serial no. 7847, 7.7 mm Japanese cal., 26 inch round bbl., blue
finish, hardwood stock. A takedown variant of the Type 99 rifle, the Type 2 is designed
to be carried in a jump bag by a paratrooper and rapidly reassembled after landing, reducing dependence on separate
equipment drops. Blade front and folding rear sights with anti-aircraft wings, an untouched mum on the receiver, and a smooth pistol grip stock with a canvas sling and
a cupped steel buttplate. Matching partial serial numbers are present on the bayonet lug, underside of the barrel, dust cover and bolt components, with the “927” assembly
number on the left side of the barrel, the front and rear mounting irons, and the wedge screw. A brass muzzle protector is also included.
CONDITION: Very fine, with 80% of the original blue finish, showing the beginnings of a gray and brown patina, scattered spotting, mild edge wear and handling marks. The assembly numbers
are double struck; the number was originally “924”, with the last two digits overstruck with “27” on the irons, barrel and wedge screw. The stock is fine, with a number of dents and scratches.
Mechanically excellent.
Estimate: 8,000 - 12,000
