Wonderful Factory Engraved
Marcel Thys & Fils Boxlock
Ejectors Double Rifle - Serial
no. 9331, 9.3x74R cal., 24 1/2
inch solid rib bbl., blue/coin
finish, walnut stock. Built by
Marcel Thys & Fils, one of Belgium’s
premier makers of fine double rifles and
shotguns between 1960 and 2004, with this
rifle being a wonderful example of the quality of arms that they produced in their time.
This wonderful rifle is made with blued steel chopperlump barrels featuring an engraved
ramped beaded blade front sight, a fixed rear sight and “M. Thys & Fils, Liege” signed on
the matted rear quarter rib which has engraving at the muzzle end, correct Belgian proof
marks ahead of the flats, and chambers with automatic ejectors. The rifle is chambered
in 9.3x74R, considered by many to be continental Europe’s equivalent to the venerable .375 Holland & Holland, and is still quite popular today amongst sportsmen. The barrels
are fitted to the coin finished bolstered boxlock action which displays lovely scroll engraving flowing off of the action onto the toplever, triggerguard, and both tangs. The rifle
features bushed firing pins, dual nitre blued triggers, and a tang mounted manual safety with gold inlaid “S” indicator. The rifle is fitted with a highly attractive well-figured and
multi-point checkered semi-beavertail forend with engraved fittings and Anson button release as well as a pistol grip stock with teardrop carved drop points and a checkered
bare butt. Length of pull 15 inches. Weight 7 lbs. 4 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 99% original blue finish on the barrels, 95% original coin finish with some very minor spotting/discoloration as well as some dried grease, and
overall minor handling evidence. The wood is very fine with a small pressure crack at the top tang and few minor scratches and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
Estimate: 14,000 - 22,500
