Gorgeous Factory Master Richard Roy and Jim Demunck Signed, Engraved,
and Gold Inlaid Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Co. 20 Gauge A. H.
Fox Exhibition Grade Double Barrel Shotgun with Case - Serial no. F205691,
20 gauge, 30 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened/gold finish, walnut stock.
Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Company builds these exceedingly fine guns
by hand just as they were over 100 years ago when Ansley Herman Fox designed
his world famous gun and C.S.M.C. is keeping that legacy alive through guns like
this exceptional piece. This gun is built with blued steel barrels featuring dual white
beads on the matted concave solid rib which is marked with a thin gold line toward
the breech and flanked by “MADE TO ORDER, A.H.FOX” and “KRUPP-FLUID-STEEL” on
the right and left barrels respectively inlaid in gold, single band of gold with scroll
wedge at either muzzle, 2 1/2 inch wedges of scroll engraving at either breech with
a single gold band, and a pair of beautifully inlaid grouse in flight on either barrel
ahead of the wedge. The barrel has 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors as
well as gold inlaid markings on the flats along with “PAUL H. GERRIE” not in gold.
The vibrant bone and charcoal case colored boxlock action displays extensive floral
scroll engraving with gold inlaid line borders around the edges and surrounding
a trio of gold inlaid game bird scenes consisting of a woodcock
on the left, a pheasant cock on the underside over a gold “ANSLEY H. FOX” banner,
and another gold woodcock on the right all cut in vivid detail. The gold bordered
engraving flows off of the action onto the pierced toplever, both tangs, and the
pierced triggerguard bow. The gun is signed to the right of the triggerguard by
master engravers Richard Roy and Jim Demunck, the two phenomenal artists that
carried out the decorative work. The watertable is again marked “PAUL H. GERRIE”
in gold along with the gold markings. The gun features double gold triggers and a
tang mounted automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE” indicator. The gun is fitted
with a gorgeous exceptionally well-figured and fancy fleur-de-lis checkered splinter
forend with engraved and gold inlaid forend iron and latch and an ebony tip inlay
as well as a straight grip stock with beautiful scroll carving on the flats, behind the
wrist checkering, and at the heel and toe, “P/H/G” inlaid gold letters directly into
the wood, and engraved and gold inlaid blued steel toe and heel plates around the
checkered butt. While we cannot positively confirm the identity of Paul H. Gerrie,
a likely candidate is the renowned American coin collector by that name, clearly a
gentleman whom could appreciate the beauty of an object.
