Highly Desirable Factory
Master Carl Ennis Engraved
Remington Model 11 Sportsman
F-Grade Semi-Automatic Shotgun -
Serial no. 763159, 12 gauge, 26 inch vent rib
bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. These “F” or Premier Grade
guns were the finest built by Remington, with each part
hand selected and fit by master gunsmiths at the factory
before being engraved by a master, with this example
being completed in September, 1949, (DUU date stamp).
The gun was built with a blued steel barrel featuring dual
bead sights on the matted flat vent rib, six inch wedges
of scroll engraving at the breech on either side of the rib
incorporating the factory marks along with a hand cut
circled “F GRADE” marking, a 2 3/4 inch chamber, and
choke constriction of .008 inches (improved cylinder).
The barrel is fitted to the blued receiver which displays
near full coverage beautifully cut broad floral scroll enveloping six highly attractive panel game scenes. The game scenes consist a pair of woodcocks,
a pair of pointing setters, and a bedded grouse on the right side and a pheasant cock, a pair of pointers, and a pair of quail on the left. There is a small “E”
on the left side below the pointers indicating that this gun was engraved by Remington Master Engraved Carl Ennis. Finally, there is a bust of a pointer on
the triggerguard and hand cut serial number on the lower tang and ahead of the loading port, where there is also a hand cut “GRADE-F” marking. The gun is
fitted with a beautifully figured and multi-point checkered forend and a pistol grip stock with blank gold inscription oval and hard rubber factory grip cap and
buttplate. Stock measurements: 1 5/8 inch drop at comb; 2 3/8 inch drop at heel; 14 1/8 inch length of pull; weight 8 lbs. 7 oz.
CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 98% original blue finish with minor handling evidence, a minor patch of spotting at the rear right of the receiver, and some dried grease on the bolt. There is a small crack at
the right of the forend in the grasping groove; otherwise, the wood is very fine with some dings and scratches and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
Estimate: 9,000 - 13,000
