Exceptional Merwin, Hulbert & Co. Large Frame Open Top Single
Action Revolver - Serial no. 10785, 44-40 WCF cal., 7 inch round bbl., nickel
finish, hard rubber grips. Second Model Merwin, Hulbert & Co. Single Action revolver manufactured c. 1878.
The revolver has the early open top frame with square butt and scoop flute cylinder. The revolver has two-piece,
checkered, hard rubber grips, and the butt is fitted with the standard lanyard ring. The barrel, cylinder, and frame
are nickel plated, and the hammer, trigger, cylinder latch, and trigger guard are color casehardened. The hammer
spur has coarse, border-less knurling. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped: “MERWIN HULBERT & Co. NEW YORK, U.S.A.”
followed by the 1874-1877 patent dates in one line. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped: “THE HOPKINS & ALLEN Manufacturing Co.
Norwich, Conn. U.S.A.” in one line. “CALIBRE/WINCHESTER 1872” is roll-stamped on the left side of the frame below the cylinder. The serial
number “10785” is stamped on the butt behind the lanyard loop, and the assembly number “485” is stamped on the inside of the barrel
lug and the rear face of the cylinder.
CONDITION: Near new. The revolver retains 98% plus of the original nickel-plated finish. Wear is limited to a few very minor storage marks
and a 1/4 inch patch of flaking on the top of the backstrap at the junction with the left grip. The hammer, trigger, trigger guard, and cylinder latch retain
97% of the color casehardened finish with strong case colors. The barrel and frame markings are crisp. The hard rubber grips are in excellent condition
and show almost no wear. The cylinder lock up needs work; otherwise, the revolver functions. This is an exceptional example of a very desirable Merwin,
Hulbert & Co. Large Frame Open Top Single Action revolver.

Co. 3rd Model Pocket Army Single
Action Revolver - Serial no. 4731, 44-40
WCF cal., 3 1/2 inch round bbl., nickel finish,
hard rubber grips. This is an outstanding example of a large
frame Merwin Hulbert 3rd Model Pocket Army revolver; the revolver has a top strap, round
barrel, fluted cylinder and bird’s head butt with pointed extension and lanyard hole. The
revolver has a factory nickel plated finish with casehardened hammer, trigger guard, barrel
latch, and blue trigger. The left side of the barrel is marked with the two line Hopkins & Allen
address/patent dates, the left side of the frame is marked “CALIBRE/WINCHESTER 1873”, and the right side of the frame is
marked “MERWIN HULBERT & Co. N.Y./POCKET ARMY”. The serial number is stamped on the right side of the lanyard extension.
The assembly number “4230” is stamped on the back of the barrel lug and the rear face of the cylinder. Fitted with black, two piece checkered
hard rubber grips.
CONDITION: Excellent plus retaining 98% plus original nickel on the barrel showing some isolated light spotting as well as some scattered
minor surface scratches. The frame and cylinder retain 99% original nickel finish showing only collector type handling marks and surface
scratches. The hammer and trigger guard show 90% brilliant original deep case colors, and the trigger still retains most of its handsome
original niter blue finish. The grips are also excellent plus. Mechanically excellent. A truly outstanding Merwin Hulbert Revolver.
