Exceptional Colt New Model 1895 Navy Double Action Revolver with
Rare Factory Picture Box - Serial no. 112680, 38 LC cal., 6 inch round bbl., blue finish, hard rubber
grips. This excellent original Colt New Model 1895 Navy Double Action Revolver was manufactured
in 1898. The revolver has the original Colt high polish commercial blue finish with niter blue hammer
and trigger and checkered hard rubber grips. The grips have fine checkering and the upper portion of
the grip has “COLT” in an oval at the tops. The sides of the hammer are polished bright. The ejector rod
head is casehardened. The revolver is correctly not fitted the lanyard loop on the butt found on military
contract New Model Army and Navy revolvers. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the two line
Hartford address and “84, 88 and ‘95” patent dates which identify this revolver as a Model 1895 Double
Action revolver. The left side of the barrel
is roll-stamped: “COLT. D.A. 38” in a single
line. “38” is stamped on the bottom of the
barrel just ahead of the frame. The circled
Rampant Colt trademark is stamped on
the left rear of the frame above the grip.
The assembly number “224” is stamped
on the inside of the frame, crane and on
the cylinder latch. The serial number is
stamped in two lines on the butt. The
revolver is complete with a rare Colt
picture box for the “NEW NAVY D.A./
Model of 1895”. The top of the box has a
red illustration of the revolver on the main
panel and the Rampant Colt motif in a
second panel to the left of the revolver
illustration. The sides of the carton are
deep purple. The inside of the lid has the
affixed yellow and red “”IDEAL” RELOADING
IMPLEMENTS” Colt recommendation label.
Along with cleaning rod/screw driver.
CONDITION: Excellent. The revolver retains
95% plus bright original high polished
blue finish with some areas of thinning on
the back strap, minor muzzle wear and
some scattered minor high edge wear. The
trigger and hammer retain virtually all of
the bright original niter blue finish with a
very small area of minor spotting on the
rear of the hammer and a small amount
of speckled discoloration on the bright
hammer sides. The grips are also excellent
with a few minor handling marks and
sharp checkering. The markings remain
sharp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
The box is excellent with some minor
corner and edge wear. The inside label
is nearly all intact. This is an outstanding
commercial Colt New Model 1895 Navy
Double Action revolver with a rare Colt
picture box that would be extremely
difficult to improve upon!
