U.S. Colt Cavalry Model Single
Action Army Revolver - Serial no.
119738, 45 Long Colt cal., 7 1/2 inch
round bbl., blue/casehardened finish,
walnut grips. This is a fine original
example of a U.S. contract Colt
Cavalry Model Single Action Army
revolver that was manufactured in
1887 and inspected by Ordnance
Sub-Inspector David F. Clark. The
revolver features the standard one-
line Hartford barrel address, and the
frame has the three-line Colt patent markings followed by “U.S.” property mark. Small “D.F.C.” sub-
inspection initials are stamped on the underside of the barrel, bottom of the frame above the
serial number, side of the cylinder and on the left butt of the grip. “P” proofmarks are stamped
on the underside of the barrel and side of the cylinder. Assembly number “657” is stamped on
the loading gate. Matching visible serial numbers are on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard,
back strap, and cylinder. The left side of the grip is dated “1887” above a script letter cartouche,
and the right side of the grip has David F. Clark’s script letter “DFC” cartouche.
CONDITION: Fine, retains 60% original blue finish concentrated mostly on the barrel, 20%
original casehardened finish, smooth gray and brown patina on the balance, some scattered
light freckling, a few small patches of minor pitting, and absolutely crisp markings in the metal
overall. Grip is also fine with tight fitment, a few light handling marks, an absent section at the
bottom left rear, distinct edges, and crisp cartouches. Mechanically excellent.
