This pistol was part of the personal collection of Ed
Brown (1946-2024), the founder of Ed Brown Products
Inc. Gifted with a naturally mechanical mind, Ed initially
worked as a tool and die maker before starting his first
firearms business in 1968 called “Brown’s Gun Shop”,
which he operated as a part time venture on evenings
and weekends. Also a naturally skilled shooter, Ed began
competing in IPSC and the Bianchi Cup in 1980, being
ranked in the Top 16 of the world for championship combat
shooting. He was also an active member of the National
Rifle Association, Safari Club International, and the American
Pistolsmith Guild. During his time in competitive shooting, Ed became frustrated with the quality of parts
available on the market for the Model 1911 pistols, envisioning his own full line of aftermarket parts. This vision
became a reality in 1988 when Ed focused his efforts completely into his firearms parts business, which quickly
reaped success with Brownells adding some of the new components to its catalog only months after conception. He
continued gunsmithing work until 1991, despite being named the “Pistolsmith of the Year” by the American Pistolsmith
Guild that year, due to the ever increasing popularity and demand of his parts lines, with Ed Brown Products Inc. being
incorporated the following year for that sole focus. Ed retired in 2010, with a reputation of being one of the most skilled
1911 based pistol smiths in the United States, leaving his now well-regarded brand in the capable hands of his two sons.
