Very Scarce Early
Production German
V. C. Schilling Bergmann Model 1896 No. 2 First
Iteration “Folding Trigger” Semi-Automatic Pocket
Pistol, Serial Number “30”, with En-Bloc Clip - Serial no.
30, 5 mm cal., 3 inch octagon bbl., blue/straw finish, walnut grips.
Manufactured c.1896 by the firm of V. Charles Schilling of Suhl, Germany, as serial number “30” of fewer
than 500 Bergman Model 1896 No.2 first iteration “folding trigger” pocket pistols completed. The first iteration of
the Model 1896 No.2 pistol used a hinged forward-folding trigger installed ahead of the magazine, with a long transfer bar
connecting it to the rest of the mechanism, intended to make it more easily concealed in a pocket. Proving accident prone and unpopular
on the commercial market, the first iteration of the Model 1896 No. 2 was phased out of production for a second iteration with a conventional fixed trigger, released less than a year later.
Features fixed blade front and notch rear sights, commercial “crown/crown/U” proofs on the barrel, extension, and bolt, “611” marked on the left of the three inch octagon barrel, three-line
“PATENT/BREVETE/S.G.D.Q” marking on the left of the frame, along with the two-digit serial number “30” on the forward right portion of the frame. Fitted with a pair of checkered walnut grips
stamped “30” on the interiors. Lanyard ring absent. Includes an ill-fitting Bergmann pattern en-bloc clip.
CONDITION: Very fine as professionally restored, retaining 95% plus blue finish, 90% plus niter blue finish, and 90% straw colors with some minor edge and high-point wear, partially softened
but still clear markings on the frame, and limited minor handling marks. The grips are exceptionally fine with some minor handling evidence in the otherwise well-defined checkering. The
recoil spring is under powered, otherwise mechanically fine. Overall an attractive early production example of the very scarce V. C. Schilling Bergmann Model 1896 No. 2 first iteration “folding
trigger” pocket pistol!

Excellent Austro-Hungarian Steyr Mannlicher Model 1905 Semi-Automatic Pistol - Serial no. 9345, 7.65 mm
cal., 6 1/4 inch solid rib bbl., blue finish, hardwood grips. Manufactured c. 1905-1910 by Steyr. Offered here is an
excellent specimen of a Mannlicher Model 1905 semi-automatic pistol. These pistols were considered advanced
for their time, using a delayed blowback action, and had a number of complex machined components, making
them labor intensive to produce. The action is fed from a 10 round internal magazine, able to be loaded from the
top via stripper clips or individually. Fixed blade front sight and notch rear sight. “SYSTEM/MANNLICHER/Md.1905/
WAFFENFABRIK/STEYR” marked on the left side of the frame cover. Matching numbers are present on multiple
parts, including the frame cover and the interiors of the serrated grips.
CONDITION: Excellent, with 97% plus original blue finish, showing some minor edge wear and handling marks.
The grips are very fine, with tight fitment, and some dings and flat spots in the otherwise crisp serrations.
Mechanically excellent.
Provenance: The Collection of Clive Cussler.
Estimate: 3,000 - 4,500
