The barrels are fitted to the coin finished Beesley patent self-opening sideclipped pinless sidelock action with third
fastener. The action is profusely decorated and shows full coverage deep carved scrollwork matching that on the barrels
and interspersed with gold inlaid accents which all extends to the toplever, trigger guard, and both of the extended tangs,
the bottom of which shows the serial number inlaid in gold. The engraving surrounds “PURDEY” signatures inlaid in gold
on either bolster, as well as seven wonderfully detailed, carved game scenes depicting the animals in Africa’s “big five”,
five of which are carved in relief gold. The scenes consist of a bust of a lion on the left fence and a bust of a leopard on
the right fence. The gold game scenes show a pair of male lions downing a wildebeest on the left lockplate, a pair of black
rhinoceros on the underside, a herd of four cow and calf elephants on the right lockplate, a cape buffalo on the toplever,
and another elephant on the trigger guard. The rifle is signed “P.COGGAN” on the triggerplate at the front of the trigger
guard for the legendary English Master Engraver Phil Coggan, who carried out the engraving on this truly stunning piece
of firearms art. The rifle features bushed firing pins, double triggers (front is articulated), a right hand rolled trigger guard,
and a tang mounted manual safety with extra bolted safety, both with gold inlaid indicators.
