CONDITION: Fine, retains 60% of the original blue finish and muted original
case colors on the hammer and lever with the balance having thinned to
either a plum-brown or grey patina, some scattered patches of light pitting/
oxidation, and some minor scratches. The wood is also fine with a small dark
colored splice on the front right upper edge of the forearm and some scattered
light dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. An extremely rare variation
of Winchester’s .22 Extra Long caliber Model 1873 rifle! One would search a
very long time to find another example!
Estimate: 14,000 - 22,500

"By far the rarest of 22s was the 22 Extra Long.
While this cartridge was never, as far as we can
tell, offered for the Model 1873 in any Winchester
catalogue, our survey has revealed four of them."
