Very Scarce and Highly Desirable Factory Engraved, Nickel and Gold Plated Merwin, Hulbert & Co. Pocket
Army Double Action Revolver - Serial no. 7536, 44-40 WCF cal., 7 inch round bbl., nickel/gold finish, hard rubber
grips. This Merwin, Hulbert & Co. large frame, double action revolver has a top strap, round barrel, fluted cylinder,
and bird’s head butt and was manufactured in the 1880s by Hopkins & Allen. The revolver has a nickel plated
main finish with gold plated cylinder and color casehardened hammer, trigger and trigger guard. The barrel has
an integral half-moon front sight, and the top strap has a sighting groove. The revolver has an extensive Merwin
Hulbert & Co. scroll and checkered board engraving, and the left side has a stag panel scene. The left side of the
frame under the cylinder is marked “CALIBRE/WINCHESTER” followed by “1873.” The matching assembly number
“5346” is on the barrel, cylinder, and grip frame. The right grip is marked “5313.” The right side of the pommel ahead
of the lanyard loop has the serial number.
CONDITION: Excellent with 95% plus of the original nickel plated finish, 85% plus original gold, with some flaking
at the front of the cylinder, good original case colors, crisp engraving, and minor overall wear. The grips are also
excellent and have crisp checkering and minimal handling and storage related wear. Mechanically excellent. This is
definitely one the finest and most deluxe Merwin, Hulbert & Co. Pocket Army revolvers extant.
