CONDITION: Excellent with crisp engraving and markings, 95% plus original “brown” finish
with only slight fading at the edges, 98% plus original nitre blue on the screws and trigger,
all of the gold inlay, and minimal overall wear. The grip is also excellent and has attractively
aged patina, a few dark age lines, and light scratches and marks. Mechanically excellent.
This is an extraordinary pair of Colt Single Action Army revolvers factory embellished to an
extraordinary degree for the most well-known early Colt collector Captain J. R. Hegeman
Jr. As Wilson states in The Book of Colt Firearms, “The rarest decoration in the Colt Single
Action is gold inlay...” This is no question a once-in-a-life time opportunity to own the
most highly optioned, factory bespoke, pair of first generation Colt Single Action Army
revolvers, the most iconic American firearm ever made.
