These guns were often viewed as tools and are rarely found in high condition, particularly the standard
configuration guns like this example. There are Winchester factory oval proofs on top of the barrel and receiver
at the breech, a practice that entered production the year this rifle was made. The top barrel flat is marked
with the standard two-line address and caliber marking at the breech. The upper tang has the three-line
model and trademark information, while the lower tang has the two-line patent dates and the serial number. It
is fitted with a German silver No. 21 “Sporting” blade front sight and an elevation adjustable No. 24 “Sporting”
notch rear sight. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.
CONDITION: Excellent, retains 98% of the bright, original blue finish with some storage marks, 95% plus of the
vibrant original case colors on the hammer and lever with a small patch of light surface spotting, and 95% plus
of the original nitre blue on the loading gate. The wood is also excellent with a few patches of minor dings on
the left of the forearm and toe of the stock. Mechanically excellent. This is a Model 1886 that would be very
difficult to improve upon!
Estimate: 22,500 - 35,000
