CONDITION: Exceptionally fine. The barrel and magazine have 95% of the original blue
finish remaining with some edge wear at the muzzle and some thinning on the magazine.
The Winchester legend and caliber markings are crisp. The upper barrel band retains 90%
of the original blue finish; the lower band retains 50% of the original blue. The bolt and
extractor have nearly all of the bright blue finish. The nitre blue on the loading gate shows
light wear and 80% remains. 85% of the original case colors, somewhat mellowed, remain,
with small areas of silvering on the inside lever and heel, and vibrant colors on the hammer.
The re-oiled stock and forearm are both in very fine condition, with minimal handling
marks. This is an excellent, original example of a scarce and very desirable Winchester
Model 1886 saddle ring carbine with casehardened receiver in the desirable and potent
.45-90. For a combination of configuration rarity and condition collectors could spend many
years to find another such opportunity.
