The Ulrich master, factory engraving encompasses
most of the receiver, featuring two game panel
scenes, a standing buck on the right and a buck
chasing a doe on the left, with the scene on the
right being very similar to Winchester’s No. 6 style
engraving. Both of the scenes are surrounded by
beautiful floral scrollwork and attractive pinwheel
and wavy line borders. There are small flourishes of
scrollwork on the bottom and top of the receiver, as
well as on the tang of the buttplate. The masterfully
executed engraving is signed “ULRICH” on the lower
tang. The receiver, buttplate, and barrel bands
are gold plated, while the barrel, magazine tube,
breech block, lever, and hammer are all nickel
plated. The post-1920, factory replacement barrel
has an oval “WP” proof at the breech, the two-line
address on the right, and the model, trademark,
and a caliber marking on the left. The three-line
model, trademark, and patent information is on the
upper tang, while the serial number is marked on
the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with a with a
pinned blade front sight, folding ladder rear sight,
and a saddle ring on the left of the receiver. It is
mounted with a nicely figured, H-pattern checkered
forearm and very highly figured, straight grip
buttstock with a carbine buttplate.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine as factory refurbished, retaining 95% plus of the gold and nickel
finishes with a few small specks of light flaking and a few patches of light pitting on the right of the
magazine tube. The wood is very fine with a few scattered light dings, a few very light edge chips,
and crisp, refreshed checkering. Mechanically excellent. An extremely attractive example of a scarce,
highly embellished Winchester Model 1892 saddle ring carbine!
Estimate: 60,000 - 85,000
