Two factory letters are included, one dated 2001 and one 2007. Both
confirm the configuration of the carbine, receipt at the warehouse on 26
March 1895, and shipment on 24 September 1895, in order number 21459. The 2001 dated
letter also states that “According to available records #46 was the first Carbine made.” Also included
are copies of the factory ledgers showing serial numbers 2 through 49, of which serial number 46 is the
only carbine. This carbine is also identified as the first Model 94 carbine produced in “The Winchester
Model 94: The First 100 Years” by Robert Renneberg. This is an incredible opportunity to add a historic,
first of its kind piece of the legendary legacy that is the Winchester Model 1894 to your collection!
CONDITION: Extremely fine, retains 80% plus bright original blue finish, 50% original case colors, and
40% original nitre blue on the loading gate with the balance mostly a smooth grey patina due to some
high spot wear, scattered thinning, and saddle ring wear. The wood is also very fine with some minor
dings, dents, and scratches scattered throughout. Mechanically excellent. This may be a once-in-a-
lifetime opportunity to own the first Winchester Model 1894 saddle ring carbine!

Saddle Ring Carbine Serial Number 46 with Factory Letter - Serial no. 46, 38-55 WCF
cal., 20 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. The Winchester Model 1894 needs no
introduction with 7.5 million being manufactured, however, this example presents a very
unique opportunity indeed. This carbine, serial number “46” was manufactured in 1894, and
is the very first Model 1894 saddle ring carbine ever produced by Winchester. The barrel
is marked with the standard two-line address between the barrel band and rear sight and
“38-55” at the breech. The upper tang is marked with the three-line model/trademark/patent
date marking and the first year production, two-digit serial number is on the bottom of the
receiver. It is fitted with pinned German silver blade front and folding ladder rear sights, and
a saddle ring staple and saddle ring on the left of the receiver. It is mounted with a smooth
forearm and straight grip stock with a carbine buttplate.
