Thomas Ring M2 60mm Infantry Mortar, Class III/NFA Destructive Device, with Sub Caliber Training
Kit and Inert Rounds - Serial no. SN001, 60mm cal., 26 inch round bbl., green finish. Manufactured using a
new-made tube and a military surplus endcap, this is a fine example of the U.S. M2 infantry mortar. Patterned
after the French 1935 “Brandt” mortar, the M2 was a signature American weapon through World War II and into
Vietnam. Both the tube and endcap are finished in green, the tube bearing the Thomas Ring markings and
the endcap dated 1942. An adjustable bipod assembly with attached M4 mortar sight is clamped to the tube,
and a spiked baseplate on the endcap. Included with the lot are eight orange painted training rounds (sans
fuse assemblies), four extra tail assemblies, ,multi-section tube brush, sight case, and a sub caliber training
kit. The kit is built around a tube insert supported by the mortar’s firing pin at the bottom and a metal
collar at the front (three collars included), which accepts a 25mm projectile (thirteen complete rounds and
some extra components included) loaded with two 22 caliber blank cartridges (none included), one blank
propelling the projectile and the other detonating on impact to make it easier to see where the round hit, all
packed in a hardwood case with National Guard tag on the lid, cleaning brush, and a copy of an ATF letter
verifying that the conversion unit and projectiles don’t qualify as destructive devices on their own.
CONDITION: Very fine as assembled, with 95% plus green paint finish on the tube and endcap, showing
heavier wear and spotting on the bipod and baseplate. Bipod adjustments and sight are in good order.
Some of the small components of the sub caliber unit and the case show cracking and damage, otherwise
the set appears to be in fine order overall. NOTE: This Destructive Device is a National Firearms Act (NFA),
fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives,
(BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 479, National Firearms Act.
