Built with blued steel chopperlump barrels featuring
a blade foresight with Holland & Holland style flip-up
moonsight, front sling swivel, chambers with automatic
ejectors, gold centerlined two-leaf (one folding, one
standing) rear sight regulated at 100 and 200 yards, and
quick detach claw mounts with rear claw built into the
raised spear point rear quarter rib. The mounts hold a Zeiss
Diavari-D 1.5-6x scope. The sunken portion of the top rib is
signed “HARTMANN & WEISS - HAMBURG & GERMANY” and
the flat shows the 1983 dated London proof marks. The
quarter rib is decorated with beautifully cut oak leaf and
scroll engraving as well as wedges of the same scrollwork
extending 1 1/4 inches from either breech.
The barrels are fitted to the brushed bright finished
H&H style “serpentine” bolstered sidelock backaction
with hidden third fastener. The clipped fences are
carved in an oak leaf and acorn pattern, oak leaf scroll
engraving, matching that seen on the barrels, surrounding
“HARTMANN & WEISS” signature banners on either side of
the action bar and crossing onto the front of the lockplate
arm. The action also shows a trio of beautiful highly
detailed bulino engraved African game scenes depicting
a lion, a lioness, and a cub on alert in their family unit on
the left lockplate, a leopard perched on a tree branch on
the right lockplate, and a cape buffalo bull standing in the
tall grass staring at the observer as if he owed him money
as it was famously described by Robert Ruark. The scroll
continues off of the action and onto the toplever, trigger
guard, and both the extended upper and lower tangs, the
lower of which shows the serial number inlaid in fine gold.
The engraving signed “A. M. Brown” on either lockplate for
legendary English Master Engraver Alan Brown, and while
his signature is not present, it is safe to assume that his
brother Paul had a hand in engraving this masterpiece
as well.
The rifle features bushed firing pins, double triggers, a
right hand rolled trigger guard, gold centerlined cocking
indicators on either lockplate, and a tang mounted
automatic safety.
The rifle is fitted with a gorgeous highly figured and
double line bordered multi-point checkered splinter forend
with brushed bright forend iron showing engraving to
match the action along with the Anson button push rod
release. The rifle’s pistol grip stock is even more beautifully
figured and features the same checkering, teardrop carved
drop points, a brushed bright and matching engraved
trapdoor grip cap, a shadowline cheekpiece, blank gold
inscription oval, rear sling swivel, and a leather covered
recoil pad.
Included is an oak bodied takedown case bound in black
buffalo leather with nickel fittings and gold thread. The
case is lined with blue baize and contains a Hartmann &
Weiss trade label, a set of three horn handled turnscrews,
a nickel oiler and canister both with horn accents, a horn
handle two-piece cleaning rod, a horn decocking block,
and a pair of snap caps. A highly attractive case to pair with
this exceptional double rifle.
Length of pull 14 13/16 inches. Weight 10 lbs. 9 oz.
