This early production example shows the brilliant
casehardened receiver, which was standard on the Model
1886 until around 1902. The top barrel flat is marked with
the standard two-line address and the caliber marking at
the breech. The upper tang has the model marking and the
lower tang is marked with both the two-line patent dates and
the serial number. It is fitted with No. 21 German silver blade
front sight and an elevation adjustable No. 24 notch rear sight.
It is mounted with a very nicely figured, above standard-grade,
smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 95% plus of the professionally
restored blue finish with some very slight wear on some edges,
the magazine tube band, and on the end of the magazine
tube. 90% plus of the vibrant original case colors remain on the
receiver, hammer, and lever, and the buttplate shows mostly
a dark grey patina. The nicely figured wood is very fine with a
series of minor dings on the left near the wrist and otherwise a
few scattered light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
Estimate: 9,500 - 16,000
